 That's why you take guaranteed money over the contracts with clauses with Bob Arum offered. He had big offers from DAZN and the PBC too right? @patscorpio

I guess he got big money for the rematch too and ESPN wanted it.
Would he got a guaranteed offer from DAZN and Haymon though but not TR? I don't think Haymon and Hearn would be that stupid.
Kovalev was an underdog at the rematch and seemed like his time was up but he was a live enough dog that no decent promoter would offer him a guaranteed big money before the rematch let alone through 7 fights. That shyt was a motivator to him seems like not enough of a motivator plus Kovalev got himself together.
If you are a promoter and this dude just lost his title at 34 with an uninspiring performance you not gonna feed him 7 figures for the rest of his career. Nah it ain't work like that. He has a decent size fanbase in Canada if I know it right but it's not like he would be some big star and he just lost his belt which would make him a power player at the division.

I remember reading the RDS article and the DAZN offer was supposedly the best in terms of money and years, but Alvarez didn't like the fact that they had no credible opponents for him and that they lost the purse bid for the rematch in the first place.

Beterbiev challenges Kovalev to unification match

By Chris Williams: IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev (13-0, 13 KOs) has called out WBO champ Sergey ‘Krusher” Kovalev (33-3-1, 28 KOs) for a unification fight following Sergey’s big win over Eleider Alvarez last Saturday. Kovalev regained his WBO title by beating Alvarez by a 12 round unanimous decision in Frisco, Texas.

After the fight, Kovalev, 35, made it clear that he’d like to fight Beterbiev in a unification. Beterbiev and WBC light heavyweight champion Oleksander Gvozdyk are both options for Kovalev to take if he decides he wants to risk his WBO title in a unification match. However, Kovalev was twice beaten by Beterbiev in the amateur ranks in 2006 and 2007 when both guys were in Russia many years ago. Kovalev has improved dramatically since that time, and it’s hard to take much from those two fights. Beterbiev edged Kovalev by a 25-24 score in their fight in 2007.

“Now, he has a belt,” said Beterbiev to the journalist Nancy Audet at tvasports.ca. “I also have a belt. This is the right time to do a unification fight is a big fight. Come on, let’s do it. Let’s do it, Kovalev. We can fight.”

Kovalev will need to make a calculated decision before he takes this fight with the hard hitting Beterbiev. This is a much tougher fight for Kovalev than his last one against Alvarez, due to the power and outstanding amateur pedigree that Beterbiev possesses. Kovalev struggles against fighters with a good inside game, and Beterbiev is arguably a better inside fighter than Andre Ward. Beterbiev is capable of punching hard at close range. He doesn’t need to grapple with his opponents on the inside to beat them the way Ward does. Beterbiev can knock guys out in close. Kovalev would do better against Gvozdyk, who primarily keeps the action at range in his fights unlike Beterbiev, who can fight on the inside and outside.

Beterbiev, 33, last fought in October in knocking out Callum Johnson in the 4th round. Beterbiev has now been out of action for four months, and he still doesn’t have an opponent scheduled. If his management can put together a unification fight against Kovalev, it’s a fight would probably take place in the summer. That would be good for Kovalev, but maybe not a good deal for Beterbiev, who has been inactive much of the time in the last couple of years. Beterbiev didn’t look that sharp in his recent fight with Johnson. Although Beterbiev knocked Johnson out in the fourth round, he was dropped in the fight, and looked exhausted when the fight was over. Johnson isn’t a great talent, but he gave Beterbiev all he could handle. Beterbiev’s punching power was very much evident in that fight. Johnson’s face was a bloody mess age the time of the stoppage in the 4th. Beterbiev didn’t land a lot of shots in the fight, but his punches did tremendous damage.

Joshua Vs Miller all the way in June?

Probably their only fight of 2019 anyway. We need over 4 plus months to build a fight of that magnitude.:mjlol:

I am convinced Joshua is trying his best to avoid fighting at all cost. He is damn near out the heavyweight conversation and let Fury and Wilder dominate those conversations.

Whats funny is I think Joshua can beat Wilder. Do I want that to happen no I like wilder.

I just think Team Joshua wants to fight him on their terms, preferably when he's older or shows signs of falling off. It's part of the business of boxing, and just smart matchmaking. It's the type of shyt that drives fans crazy.

I don't think they counted on Wilder finding an opponent in Fury, that can generate more interest then anything Team Joshua can do at the moment.

Based on what I've been reading, it appears Wilder is enjoying his team not needing AJ at the moment.

Hopefully all 3 fight each other.

Yup and since all these nikkas fight twice a year, the whole process just seems to drag forever. It never seemed like Joshua was in a rush to face Wilder, but since he fought Parker and Povetkin, I wasn't tripping since those were solid fights for the division.

its just after those fights, the pickings get slim.....Whtye, Breazeale, and Miller are the next tier of heavys below them and since AJ already fought Whyte and Breazeale before, he gotta fight Miller who isn't all that intriguing of a fight.

Joshua better hope Wilder and Fury come to a conclusive result in their rematch so he can fight the winner in the fall or winter, because if not, he'll prolly have to fight Whyte again.

Lomachenko-Crolla Purse Bid Rescheduled For February 13

By World Boxing Association

The World Boxing Association (WBA) Championships Committee has scheduled a new date for the purse bid for the mandatory title clash between WBA lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko and challenger Anthony Crolla.

The representatives of both parties were notified of the bid, which was originally scheduled for February 4, will now take place on February 13 at the offices of the WBA in Panama City.

Two other purse bids will take place on the same day, for Daniel Roman's super bantamweight defense against Murdjon Akmadiev, and Beibut Shumenov's WBA "regular" cruiserweight title defense against Arsen Goulamiriam.

lomachenko-crolla.jpg

Lomachenko is the Super Champion of the category since May 10th when he went up a weight class to face the then champion Jorge Linares with the title at stake.

The Ukrainian knocked out the Venezuelan in the ninth round after visiting the canvas in the fifth. It was one of the most dramatic fights of 2018 and the fight of the year for the WBA. Later, in December, “Loma” carried out the second defense of his crown against the Puerto Rican Jose Pedraza, whom he beat by unanimous decision to pick up the IBF title.

In the case of Anthony Crolla, he was already a 135-pound champion between 2015 and 2016. He won the title four years ago against Darleys Perez and defended it once against Ismael Barroso. However, he succumbed in his second defense against Linares in September of 2016.

Crolla challenged Linares again in rematch but could not win that bout either. Since then he has had three victories in a row to have the right to challenge the champion once again.

The purse bid will be directed by Aurelio Fiengo. For its part, the minimum bid amount will be $150,000 and the distribution will be 75% for Lomachenko and 25% for Crolla.

i have zero interest in a fight like this..and this will most likely main event an ESPN card..save us commey
