Kovalev Charged With Felony Assault, Allegedly Punched Woman
Kovalev Charged With Felony Assault, Allegedly Punched Woman
By TMZ
Former light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev has been charged with felony assault for allegedly punching a woman in the face back in June -- but he claims he's not guilty ... TMZ Sports has learned.
Here's what we know ... the Russian fighter was arrested in Big Bear, CA on June 9 after a woman told police the feared puncher struck her in the face, causing serious injuries.
Sources connected to the case tell us ... the woman is claiming Kovalev had hit on her at a party earlier in the evening but rejected his advances. She claims Sergey and a friend followed her back to her cabin and that's where the alleged attack occurred.

We're told the woman claims she suffered major injuries including a severely broken nose, a concussion and a displaced disk in her neck.
Cops tell TMZ Sports ... they began searching for Kovalev immediately and arrested him a short time later.
He was charged with assault by means of force likely to cause great bodily injury -- which carries a maximum sentence of 4 years in prison.
Kovalev appeared in court and entered a not guilty plea.
What's interesting ... Kovalev fought Eleider Álvarez in August -- just 2 months after the arrest -- and lost in a shocking upset.
Kovalev is due back in court in March. He also has a rematch with Alvarez lined up for Feb. 2.
We've reached out to Kovalev for comment -- so far, no word back.

i believe it lol..rejected advances...kovalev is married too (:dame: for that chatty patty statement)

:laff:..2 of those "fights" at middleweight and super middleweight because he insisted he wasnt middleweight enough to face GGG while holding a MW belt and lineal status:laff:..red headed roided up clown

I think Canelo is a terrific fighter. Hell, I may very well favor him to beat Jacobs when I have time to think about It.

It just gets disappointing when I read shyt like this on this board, that attracts people who aren’t just casuals, and really should know what’s going on.

Now I’m reading he has an all time great resume? Man what am I missing? Mayweather, Trout (at the time), Lara, & GGG are the good fights on his resume. Ironically, he had tough fights with all of these guys.

Everyone else was a “name” that was already done. Guys like Mosley, Angelo, Kirkland. I think Cotto was a good win though.

I think his resume is solid. We all know you are rarely gonna have the opportunity to fight everyone in their prime. However, the majority of his resume is built off fights that make him look good, with a couple of good fights sprinkled here and there.

I expect Danny to be a tough fight. Do you guys notice a trend when Canelo fights a good fighter in his prime? This could be another debatable.

What current fighter has a resume like his resume, Lara and Trout were both in their primes and coming off impressive fights, he fought Mayweather at 22 he fought Cotto at a better weight for Cotto, Cotto was sto very
Good, and fought the boogeyman of boxing
Somebody y’all said everybody was scared of and I had him at least Winning the second fight. Nobody above 130 has this resume that’s active.

That post said he WILL leave the sport w an ATG resume not that he has it already. I think looking at who he has fought by now it’s possible. Or maybe his prime will be over in a year or so as many early starters’ but he hasn’t taken so much punishment up to this point so it’s realistic that he gonna be in his prime at least for a few more years.

Why the fukk should Canelo get credit for fighting a good opponent?

I don't understand you nyggas man. This is the same guy who went on a "strenuous" 3 fight run of Amir Khan, Liam Neeson from Taken, & Chavez Jr.
Did you really just ask why canelo should get credit for fighting the two best middlewights in a span of one year??:dahell:

Jesus christ:mjlol:

Now we're not allowed to give fighters respect for giving us the best fights possible :snoop:

Yall be acting like some weirdos.

Why give him props for something he's suppose to do?

You guys are so conditioned to see shytty matchups, that as soon as a good match up is made, it's " oh props to ____ for taking on a good fight."

Nygga get the fukk out of here with that. He gave us three bad fights in a row PRIOR to the GGG fight. That nygga better make good fights.

The top draw in the sport should be trying to make the good fights. What is wrong with you nyggas?
