nice little article on maidana

Maidana Enjoying Retirement, Hopes Martinez Does The Same

By Elisinio Castillo

A little over two years ago, former two division champion Marcos Maidana decided to hang up the gloves - after taking part in back to back pay-per-view fights with Floyd Mayweather.

Time has passed and, now Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) lives within boxing from the side.

"Now I am a promoter, I organize fights", explained Maidana to TN Deportivo. "One year after leaving the sport I wanted to return, but I did not feel the same desire. I went to the United States, I rented a car and an apartment for a month, but I turned around the following week, the internal fire went out."

The former super lightweight and welterweight champion of the WBA, said that one of the fighters he currently manages is his brother, Fabián "TNT" Maidana.

"Next weekend he's going to fight Jaider Parra, in Mar del Plata, it's a good test he's going to have against a good opponent, I think he's going to have a great time. Fabian is doing well, he can punch and he has a much better technique than me, " Maidana said.

For his part he referred to the situation of former world champion Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez, who recently expressed his desire to fight again.

"Many boxers come back because they miss it. I wanted to train, to be back in the atmosphere of boxing, but I understood that it was enough," Maidana said.

"At a certain age you can feel good, but the body will not give you anything more. Maravilla Martínez should enjoy what he accomplished and the glory he achieved."

Finally, he referred to the controversy that was generated by uploading photos with weapons to social networks.

"I do not regret it, I do it because I like it", he defended himself and clarified: "I am always armed, but I would only use them if it were an extreme situation."

This nikka in a recent interview basically lowkey admitting to being chinny and doubting his ability to take punches from top tier guys. Way to tell on yourself here :snoop: :francis:

"Danny is a puncher, he's a real puncher. He hit me in my arm and I couldn't lift it for days. The way it felt, I'm thankful it was my arm and not my chin, because I know I wouldn't have been able to withstand that blow. There's only a limit to what a fighter can take. And when you produce power beyond that limit, it doesn't matter who you are. At this level, ain't no such thing as a glass chin or a good jaw. If a fighter took a good punch, then it really wasn't a good punch. Somehow someway, something got off of that punches and it didn't stick. Because when it sticks, fighters drop"

Eubank fighting for the IBO title while Yilidrim, the guy he destroyed, is fighting for the WBC :mjlol:
Eubank chose the Degale fight over the Anthony Dirrell one. I can understand it, much bigger fight for him. What that WBC belt gonna mean anyway, we all know that belt is really Benavidez's he was just sidelined cause doing coke. Plus I'm sure if Eubank is a part of this new Haymon-IFL TV thing he gonna get a shot at either Benavidez or Uzcategui/Plant if he beats Degale.

I was just thinking back of how fukking good this last year was in boxing and it was the second in a row after 2017 was superb too. I wish more of the same to 2019 and apart from 105 and 130 every other 15 weightclasses has some talks going on about unifications or just good fights.
