Elies comedy. This dude stays on some happy go lucky shyt. Even when the cameras are off he's the same. That's why he went from a laughingstock to prolly the most popular boxing reporter out here. Cause he shows respect to all fighters from top to bottom. That's why a lot of fighters let him in their circle. They know he's not gonna do em dirty.

A lot of these boxing reporters are grimy as hell. Just look at fat dan. Dude openly dikk rides certain fighters with no shame. Like how he dikkrode kovlaev during the whole ward drama. Then when kov bounced from the press conference early Dan wanna be like "ok that's it. now I'm rooting for ward"......wtf:what:......keep your fat ass over there where you belong.

Other reporters will shyt on fighters repeatedly. then when they start winning they act like they were down with em all along:dead:

Boxing media is garbage overall. Too many pick sides. Media should always be neutral no matter what. This ain't the coli. We're allowed to be stans. That's what makes us great:myman:

Bob is the best promoter in the world. He's not dumb enough to risk Terrence losing to a pbc fighter. Not right now at least

I see nothing wrong with what Bob is saying.. This fight should def be on the Haglar/Hearn level if not greater..

And yes the fight needs to be on ppv in order for the fighters to get paid what they should for a fight of this magnitude.. Not getting the usually 2.5 million cap Haymon offers(plus gate)

500k can easily be reached and should be the goal... Now of Arum said a million buys we can call Bullshyt. 500k definitely reachable

 y'all better put some respect on Bob Arum's name as a promoter.

These are good good points :ehh:

But for real. Bob arum knows how to promote his ass off. I mean this dude turned a 5'3 ugly ass Filipino kid into a superstar. obviously manny deserves credit for his fighting. But he wouldn't have gotten to those heights without Arum. Bob worked mannys career like a fukkin genius.

PBC really doesnt promote their guys at all. The boxers are out here promoting themselves. So shouldn't they get a promotional check?.....a lot of these guys have to be on social media. They have to start drama, talk shyt, and do whatever it takes to become a star. They're all basically fighters slash promoters. They should be getting paid more than they are.

I mean Danny garcia and Keith Thurman should earn more than 2 million for a fight of their magnitude. Terrence crawford just made 3 mil to fight horn :heh:......A lot of these guys are getting paid good consistent checks, but they prolly won't go much higher than what they're making now.

I do like what haymon has done but I think there's a lot of negatives that come with it. I think a lot of these guys under PBC would be much bigger stars if they were better promoted. I know a lot of promoters out here are shady as hell. But a great one that really does his job could turn a star into a superstar with the right moves. If Danny garcia had stayed with goldenboy theres no doubt he would be a bigger star right now. Dude woulda been on every canelo card getting all of canelo's fans. A fight with Thurman woulda been massive.

Even though I dont think much of Adrien Broner as a fighter, I gotta respect dude for staying relevant. Everybody knows he's a bum. Everybody knows he'll never win a big fight in his life. But yet we keep tuning in. Because Adrien promotes himself like a muthafukker. Don't matter if he wins or loses, dude knows how to keep people entertained and interested. And I can never hate on that. He's keeping him and his family rich. That's admirable no matter what.

Is Boxing About to Ask Fans to Dig Deeper Than Ever?
VkNOeSwrhrduthumb.jpg

By Cliff Rold

Until MMA really got hot, it was fair to say no sport in the US cost its fans more money on a regular basis than boxing.

Sure, the professional and college gridiron have long had extended coverage packages for the true superfan. Still, the Super Bowl, the Iron Bowl, even the “Nobody is in the stadium but we paid to advertise on a game between .500 teams” Bowl, were available to just about everyone.

If it wasn’t on network television, it was at least on basic cable. The reach of the latter has never quite reached free network levels but it’s still enough to blanket the nation.

Boxing fans have, for the most part, been used to paying more over the years. Ask an older fan where they were when Ali fought Frazier for the first time. Many will recall seeing it live. Ask them what it was like to be in the Garden that night, or what theatre they watched it in. Some will recall. More will swear they saw it on television back when ‘boxing was free.’

They’re wrong.

They’ve forgotten.

People who watched saw a replay after the fact if they didn’t see it in the arena or via closed circuit. There were less fights like that in 1971, but that wasn’t even the beginning of closed circuit. Pay-per-view as an in-home concept is younger, but it’s not the real birth of pay-to-watch by a long shot.

depression-boxing.jpg

Once cable became a thing, paying more than the cost of basic cable to see big time boxing came with it. HBO and Showtime have been the home of most of the biggest fights of the last two generations. HBO has been less of a regular boxing outlet lately but their investment was steady and grew for a long time. They could always get back in the game again in a bigger way.

Most of the big fights was not all of them of course.

The biggest fights were reserved for their pay-per-view broadcasts.

Real hardcore fans who wanted to see some of the best action in the lightest weight divisions in recent years also needed to throw in some extra coin for expanded Spanish packages that carried networks like BeIn Espanol. Boxing fans who watched at least all the big fights, including the major pay-per-view showdowns, have paid hundreds more dollars per year for their fix.

Is the cost about to go up for a new generation?

On Tuesday, ESPN’s Dan Rafael reported that the DAZN streaming service will be airing all three of the next iteration of World Boxing Super Series tournaments. The cruiserweight WBSS tournament has been one of the highlights of the sport in the last year or so; the super middleweight companion hasn’t been as good but had some highlights. The planned bantamweight tournament looks as good as the cruiserweights have been.

Where do we sign up, right?

The answer comes with another logical question: how much?

A quick search of Google shows the current cost in Canada for DAZN’s streaming service is $20 a month. In US dollars, that would be about $15 with likely bargain packages for those who sign up for longer. Official US prices are not yet available.

DAZN is far from the only game in town. Boxing fans have also recently been introduced to the ESPN+ app. That’s currently around $5 a month. ESPN+ isn’t just for boxing of course. It also offers other sports. Be sure to read the fine print though. ESPN+ for fans of team sports are still subject to blackout in their local area.

That’s even if you’re a cable subscriber already paying for regular ESPN too. Expanded ESPN already costs a little extra for most; the Ocho isn’t free. The primary network is still available to almost anyone with just regular old cable. It won’t be an issue this weekend on ESPN+, with fights from London and Mexico. Of course, a fight like Miguel Berchelt-Jonathan Barros would probably have been on BeIn Espanol even just a year ago.

This weekend, it’s the new app.

One of the complaints about cable over the years has been the lack of a la carte options. What’s the old saying? Be careful what one wishes for…

Without tackling the complex battles going on between new and old media, and how the control of viewing habits and options will shake out in the years ahead, it’s enough to say that things rarely stay cheaper for long. Boxing fans, even the most ardent, don’t just watch boxing.

Subscriber viewing options are growing. Want to leave cable and still watch Game of Thrones? HBO has a streaming option for that (HBO Now). However, if you want to see, say, the next excellent Superfly boxing card live you’ll still need cable because there isn’t a live viewing option. Showtime has an app that does allow live viewing.

Disney and Warner Brothers are both building streaming platforms that will deliver a range of cool programming in a variety of viewing niches. They’ll join CBS, Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime among others who offer a range of desirable or critically acclaimed programming.

All of a sudden, everything you want to see wherever you want to see it with the convenience of an internet connection starts to add up. Cost effective moves away from cable can quickly become more expensive as each niche finds its audience. Many have cable and streaming services now. They’re already potentially paying more than they ever have.

And for the boxing fan, regardless of how they consume content, it will still mean extra for the biggest fights. Bank on it.

None of this inherently bad. For boxing fans reading right now, this is a combination of observation and guesstimate for what’s coming. In a consumer economy, what the market will bear is determined by what folks will pay for. Budgets mean choices. The question for boxing fans will be how much are they willing to pay going forward?

What fights can they afford to miss emotionally versus economically?

Sooner than later, the answer will be in.

this would be a very winnable fight for BJS...a more likely a less painful fight for Degale than lets say getting beat badly by his mandatory in Uzcategui

Billy Joe Saunders vs. James DeGale Being Explored For Sept. 15

Promoter Frank Warren is exploring the idea of matching two 2008 Olympic team-mates against each other on September 15th at the O2 Arena in London.

Warren is looking at the possibility of having WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders move up in weight to challenge IBF super middleweight titlist James DeGale.

Saunders would move up by eight pounds to take the fight.

saunders-lemieux-final-13.jpg

Saunders was twice scheduled this year to face Martin Murray and withdrew in both instances with injuries.

He is expected to be ready to fight by September.

DeGale, who captured Olympic gold in 2008, has looked a few steps behind in his last two fights. In December of last year, he was shockingly upset by Caleb Truax, who some bookies listed as a 100-1 underdog. DeGale barely reclaimed the title in their rematch earlier this year.

Saunder has been out of the ring since last December, when he showcased his career-best performance with a dominating decision win over David Lemiuex.

Warren has no issue with Saunders heading up to take that fight.

“He’d have to go up and give away weight if that did happen, but we will see if it can be done,” the promoter told Boxing News.

“I think all of those names are in the hat. That would be a great fight. I’m sure all the fans would come out for that. All those names at the moment are there to be considered. I’ve got to sit down with Bill, which I will do over the weekend and we’ll work out what we’re going to do.”

Saunders had a deal in place to face middleweight king Gennady Golovkin on August 25th at The Forum in Los Angeles, but the contest fell out when GGG finalized a rematch deal with Canelo Alvarez for September 15th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
