Naoya Inoue Promoter Contacted By World Boxing Super Series

Naoya Inoue Promoter Contacted By World Boxing Super Series

By: Nick Skok

Mr. Ohashi, the president of the Ohashi Gym and promoter of Naoya Inoue, recently informed me that he had been contacted by the World Boxing Super Series. Their interest was to specifically include Inoue in a bantamweight tournament later this year.

Kalle Sauerland, the promoter behind the Super Series, had been quoted about wanting to include a lower weight class in his next round of tournaments. “We’ll announce a lighter weight first; bantam, feather, lightweight, super fly, we’re looking at those weights.”

There had been murmurs about which lower weight division would be chosen for the next super series for some time. With Inoue ascending to bantamweight this year, suddenly matchups at 118 look a lot more appealing. After his last fight, Inoue mentioned WBO champion Tete as someone he might like to face but included the division as a whole when addressing his move to bantam. “The opponents [at 118] are interesting.”

After failed attempts at making unification fights at the super fly division, entering the WBSS could finally get Inoue and his promoter what they want in top tier opponents who also hold the title of champion.

So is Ohashi going to commit to the WBSS?

“We aren’t looking beyond McDonnell” he told me. “Afterwards we can look at the options.”

Inoue is scheduled to fight in Tokyo on May 25th for the WBA “regular” championship against Jamie McDonnell of England. McDonnell is promoted by Eddie Hearn who also promotes Ryan Burnett, the WBA “super” champion.

Today an interview on “IFL” with Eddie Hearn told us that Ryan Burnett would likely join the tournament and they expect Tete to as well. Meanwhile, Tete has been vocal about both Inoue and Burnett so interest is mutual all around. When I asked Ohashi about the possibility of fighting Burnett after McDonnell he expressed interest at the possibility of Inoue fighting in England and said “We’d like to continue our relationship with Eddie Hearn.”

So the stage is set. The promoter’s of Naoya Inoue and Ryan Burnett, two of the biggest names in the division, confirm they’ve been in touch with the WBSS, while they’re also currently working together on another fight for May. Should this come along like its now expecting to, boxing fans could begin to cautiously rejoice at a bantamweight tournament that would see positive style matchups with the prestige of unifications and name brand appeal, including one top ten pound-for-pound fighter by the name of Naoya Inoue.

Wilder can't keep Oluwafemi out of his mouth :scust:

We might fukk around and force him to fight Whyte if he carries on :Mayweather:
This guy has resorted to straight up lying to avoid being in the same room as AJ, but but but, he REALLY wants the fight, he does, honest. :mjlol:

No one is falling for his talk big then hide act anymore.:hhh:

The amount of times he's talked all that "i dun made da offa to dem" only for Eddie Hearn to call it out as complete lies is getting silly now. Make an offer, man.

Dude was really THAT shook of Whyte and his boys at ringside that he wouldn't even come to EARN MONEY commentating while also hyping a potential Joshua fight.

Would rather sit in the US and talk shyt thousands of miles away. In the running for worst heavyweight champion of all time.:picard:

Joshua has changed the story four times in the last seven days with "Fast" Eddie Hearns contradicting Joshua and himself from earlier statements they've made on days earlier.

"Fast" Eddie has been lying since been shown up on TheBoxingVoice livestream.

Hearn: Joshua Must Fight Povetkin This Year; Wants It In the UK

By Keith Idec

If Anthony Joshua and Alexander Povetkin win their respective fights Saturday night, they’re expected to meet sometime later this year, quite possibly next.

Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, told Sky Sports for a story posted to the network’s website Thursday that he wants Joshua-Povetkin to take place somewhere in the United Kingdom. Povetkin’s handlers would like to bring that heavyweight title fight to Povetkin’s native Russia, but are more than open to Povetkin returning to the UK to challenge Joshua.

Povetkin (33-1, 23 KOs) is the WBA’s mandatory challenger for Joshua, who holds the IBF, IBO and WBA heavyweight championships. The former WBA champion must defeat England’s David Price (22-4, 18 KOs) on the Joshua-Joseph Parker undercard in Cardiff, Wales, to maintain his mandatory status with the WBA.

England’s Joshua (20-0, 20 KOs) and New Zealand’s Parker (24-0, 18 KOs), the WBO champion, will fight for their four titles in the main event at Principality Stadium (Sky Sports Box Office; Showtime). Joshua and Povetkin are heavy favorites in their respective fights.

“Joshua will have to fight Povetkin at some point in 2018,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “Everything is about money, but we can generate a lot of money in the UK. [Povetkin’s handlers have] made it clear they would want to fight [in the UK]. The funding and backing that was initially there [in Russia] isn’t there anymore.”

Your boy is hoping to fight Povetkin next:pacspit:

Hearn is literally out here talking about making Joshua vs Povetkin next and you got the audacity to spin the narrative as Wilder's the one who's running?:dahell:

How many times do yall have to witness this cowardice from your "champion" until you realize the only one that's ducking is The Big Shook?:martin:

If Monster is in the tournament you know everyone else is out of it :hubie:
:russ:Nah these batanweight dudes probably wouldn’t have another opportunity ever to earn as much money as they can with WBSS.
Hearn said Burnett would be in and most likely Tete too.
If Nery could make 118 which I doubt he would be a great addition as well
I guess they will get the new IBF champ too, the winner of Emmanuel Rodriguez vs Paul Butler
I would think regardless of the result of Inoue vs Macdonnell both of them gonna be in it

Wondering if some top dogs from 115 move up for this...

Roc Nation Sports has announced a trio of fights for prospects in their stable, with two fighters back in action on March 30 and another on April 7.

On March 30 at Philadelphia’s Fillmore, heavyweight Darmani Rock (10-0, 6 KO) will face Ronny Hale (4-11, 4 KO). It’ll be the 21-year-old Rock’s first fight of 2018, a six-round bout. In another six-rounder set for that show, Tramaine “Mighty Midget” Williams, a 14-0 (5 KO) featherweight, will take on Antonio Rodriguez (12-20, 5 KO).

That night’s card will be headlined by a welterweight bout between Raymond “Tito” Serrano (24-4, 10 KO) and prospect Malik Hawkins (12-0, 9 KO).

On April 7 in Rising Sun, Indiana, at the Rising Star Casino, Tyler “Golden Child” McCreary (14-0, 6 KO) will face veteran Gustavo Molina (25-18, 9 KO) in a six-round super featherweight fight. McCreary, 24, hasn’t fought since last July, and his fight will be the night’s main event.
