Pretty much. Guys that were there from the beginning (Mook, Lux, even dudes like Surf) are gonna just take every battle they can get to make up for when they were just walking around Harlem (or wherever) battling for pride and building their names and the sport itself for nothing.

As they should. Battle rap is one of the few aversions to the fact that the pioneers often get nothing for their labour.

It pains me that Lux doesn’t make great music. This shyt has irritated from like ‘05. He has a lot of good songs scattered around, but no good projects.

I know I bring this up periodically but dude should be a bigger artist. He shouldn’t be a guy that’s reduced to just talking about battling, but the music isn’t there.

Lux has made some of the worst trendy songs I’ve ever heard.

I remember when DJ Premier said he would produce a Lux album and I have no idea why it didn’t pan out. A version of the Prhyme albums with Lux would have been crazy but it seems like he’s always trying to make “accessible” music (other than his album with Cambatta).

For better or worse, he’s the quintessential Smack DVD rapper. Elite skill but lacks the direction/structure to make great music consistently. He needs a top producer and/or an A&R to handle all the production choices so he can just show up and rap.
