Maybe, I don’t know the financial statuses of these guys to know if they should take long or short term financial risk. What you said could be a viable option but organizing is essentially a step towards ownership by people who can’t afford to actually own their own means of production. It also speaks to equity in that Smack and Beasley don’t actually create any art, and facilitating the content doesn’t necessarily mean they should get more than those that do. Their financial risk they take is only rewarded via the work of the artists. It's not that. Organizing takes a RISK that they don't want to take. It's that simple.
Because for all of the guys complaining about a league owning their battles and using them, the REAL solution is VERY simple and doable. Throw your own event and now you're the one with the ownership. But that takes a risk they're not willing to take (some have taken it obviously).
Instead of focusing so much on how to get more from cooking for someone else's restaurant, start your own.
It’s clear both groups need each other so demanding slightly more control of what people actually come to see isn’t unreasonable.
Smack is not petty or cutthroat as a business owner in my opinion, and even if he operates from a position of leverage he’s shown his willingness to get people plates even if they’ve dropped the ball (content wise) in the past. But that changes when it comes to creating a rival platform, so organizing is a relatively safe option if done well.
