Fans/rap artists need to respect battle rap the same way comedians respect stand up comedy. Just because you can rap, doesn’t mean you’ll do well at battle rap. Just because you are funny, doesn’t mean you’ll do well at stand up.

Let’s take Eddie Murphy. He knows if he wants to do stand up again, and has to get out there, grind, and work on his shyt. There is no way around it. Hell he knows that he may suck in the beginning.

I don’t understand how fans/rappers don’t have this same self awareness. These nyggas really think they can just go in and be at 100% on their first battle or some shyt. “Man Banks and Fab would come in and kill nyggas” man get out of here with that.

Cass is just too big to go the PG route, but he could have worked on his shyt by selecting the right opponents. I would have demanded guys like Con, Jae Mills, Mistah Fab, King Los, nyggas that haven’t battled in years. No way am I going to put myself at a huge disadvantage like he did. This is how I would have tried to line it up:

1. Jae Mills
2. King Los/Mistah Fab or someone like that
3. A big battle against a rusty Con that hasn’t battled in 5 years

He still would have got his money.
To be fair, a large part of that is based on the ego of Cass himself. Los, Factz, and Ab Soul all chose to battle Daylyt for the reason you said in my opinion. You can't expect Cassidy to take a measured approach when he legitimately thinks he's a god amongst men in this shyt.

I've heard guys like 40 Cal say just what you said, if he came back to battle rap he would just go against lesser opponents until he got his footing.

Crazy enough, I agree with you on this. That was my biggest problem with Cass. Fans wanted to excuse all that with saying he's great at promoting the fight but its like dawg....once he sells the fight, he's damn near below average. It's basically telling me you got 5 grams for me and you show up with 2.5. LOL.

That's damn near a perfect analogy. But its even more like he told you he has five grams of that fire, you get it and it's almost dirt weed and you tell him that, so he smokes it with you and still tells you its that fire, and you're staring at him like :dwillhuh: while he's telling you that you just don't understand the science of smoking weed and that's why you're not high.

Thats why I was like I hope Cass does what he says he is going to do. Because aint nothing worse than selling the battle and then the talent makes you mad to the point you want a refund because they was ass on stage.

I think it's worth repeating how DIFFERENT battle rap and musical rap are.

I think about this every time I hear Goodz rap. I love to hear Goodz battle but dude has zero rhythm. He is never in the pocket of a beat. He has no bop. That said, he has enough to say that if he worked on his overall musicality (ear for beats, flow/verbal syncopation) he would be a nice NY revivalist. Lux is one of the few who can successfully play in both arenas but even his battles get too lyrical miracle.

Arsonal got himself on The Breakfast club, that’s a good look

Arsonal, Hollow, and Lux have been up there. Is that it as far as battlers go??

Edit. Just watched the interview. I get that it's a competitive "sport" but battlers really hate giving battle rap as a whole or other battlers props when they get on bigger platforms. First Lux completely let Budden shyt on Shine and Clips without speaking a word lol. Now Arsonal won't even promote the battle he has coming up on TBC and basically just spoke about how he doesn't even fukk with battle rap like that lol.
