That's the one battle that I really want to see in person. People give Showoff credit as a performer, but I don't see it. He moves around a lot and seems sorta intense, but something is missing when I see him on Youtube. Plus I have a hard time believing people catch his bars, not sure if he appeals to the "confusing is clever" segment of battle rap fans, or if he has a "you gotta be there" type of effect.

The missing element is the ability to build to a punch. His performances have a similar effect to run on sentence. He talks some shyt.. Like a more eloquent Calicoe with how he spends entire rounds on talking about how specifically tough he is in every facet of life.

You're touching on the root of the problem, but it's interesting how we've been trained to look at battle rapping. There are two things that he doesn't do, that fans love. He doesn't do the four bar set-up punch. And he doesn't build a consistent cadence or pattern when he rhymes. There is a lot of stop and go, so even when he does multis it seems disjointed compared to how most battle rappers use them.

But it's crazy to say that he doesn't have the ability to do that stuff, because those two things are remarkably easy to do. For you NOT to use those techniques, you have to be special. Lux can battle without using those techniques. Surf can battle without using those techniques. Head Ice doesn't use those techniques. Dot was able to pull it off for awhile, but his content of late doesn't merit that type of respect. You really have to have next level respect from the crowd if you don't want to do those things. Those guys get love. Showoff isn't there yet. Maybe in an RBE venue they give him that love.

I don't diss him for NOT doing what everyone else is doing, but the reality is these techniques have become standard fare, and that's what clicks with most battle fans. Sometimes it just SEEMS like he's rambling, even though a bar by bar breakdown would indicate otherwise.

I can rock with this. I actually found a few of his battle to be . He talks some shyt and fits no mold.

I think he's still working out how to punctuate without selling himself out.. And def think he has potential beyond what dudes will admit.
