Damn wtf recently happened?? I legit came here because I listened to the pod and heard him speak on battle rap. shyt been cooked, but what happened that sparked this?

@superchoops covered it but yeah pretty much when URL got that deal with Caffeine they were paying battlers basically triple of what they was getting prior. Once they realized they wasn’t seeing a return on investment, they pretty much stopped funding it. Now it’s back on Smack and them to pay for battles out of pocket and as well as the app may be doing it’s not enough to cover these high prices battlers are asking for that they got accustomed to during the Caffeine/Covid era. Smack was basically like he’s not going in the red for anybody. Them days of him doing events and not seeing a profit is over. So if the battle doesn’t make any financial sense, he’s not booking it.

That’s why there’s been a lack of events, and why they’ve been really pushing the newer stars who are super cheap.

I haven't had a chance to hear the whole thing but if it's recent there was no shows this weekend for a Smack event with Qleen Paper (why they still book him, I have no idea) and I believe Suge couldn't make it.

I still love battle rap and watch for big events, but the excitement is gone. The last golden era was that Covid run when they was doing the UM tournaments and there was damn near 2 events a month. But we should've known that wasn't going to last because there was really no way to recoup the kinda a money it cost to throw events that frequently.

Blame can go all around. Fans should get the least of it. If you put a product up that's good, ppl will watch. Clips was known for bullshytting in his 3rd round. Who gonna want to pay for that? High percentage of Chess choking, etc. The blame isnt all on the battlers though. Smack/League owners are at fault too. They enabled the shyt. When caffeine came, why are you doubling and tripling the battler's pay if it's not translating into recouping the money at the event? Why are you blowing all your big named battlers on one card, so now you have to sell a crazy amount of PPVs to break even? Then you got nikkas in/of the culture running the bootleg streams. Did anything ever happen to the black compass media dude running bootlegs? Smack also never respected nikkas times. There is no one battle events should be 6 hours long. shyt was way to unorganized at times for Smack/URL to be on top for so long.

The fact that there are no stars is on Smack/App gang. I understand youtube aint making as much money as you want, but that doesnt mean you just stop releasing stuff on youtube. That is your marketing. You couldve did something as simple as releasing the first round a couple months after the event. You also probably couldve been good with releasing whole matchups on youtube after a year too. You already got the hardcore appgang ppl money. URL are lucky Caffeine's marketing game was top notch or else Eazy wouldnt have gotten big like he did.

not tryna point fingers but the amount of events Fonz was supposed to be at and then a battle including him gets postponed is ridiculous.

I'm with you on the excitement being gone, BR been worse than ever ever since spaces popped, and the Kyd Slade drama as well as the Eazy drama carried a winter and a summer, it's been so much useless chatter about drama that its taken away focus from actual battling. shyt is ridiculous. it'd be one thing if they were promoing but they just get online, talk shyt, make up, talk shyt some more, and it leads nowhere

luckily i got a healthy backlog of battles to check out so i can go back to those but looking ahead is such a question mark

I'd agree if Eazy didn't position himself as a "big battler" type of guy. only hunting for the big names, wanting a big stage more often than not, it needing to be a big event if its not on his own league. Regardless of where he can go, the only logical place for the type of battler Eazy wants to be is URL, especially having already battled big names off of URL (Geechi/Diz/Hitman). he got Bigg K, Ill Will, A.Ward, maybe Rum Nitty, but then what? Not like there wasn't a bunch of big names left at URL either, but they still might provide the most exposure.

Outside of Chrome, i'd wager that them URL bags would be bigger for him. Rap-wise i think Twork would beat him again fwiw

Facts she knew that women-only ish was monetarily insane, that jawn just a regular league now. I think Mook and Hitman will be over there…if it happens. That’s gonna make some money definitely

Remy gonna eventually back down off of this shyt too. It’s not a profitable business. I wouldn’t be surprised if she's already planning her exit. She probably wishes she never got involved with this.

ARP is falling back, Smack is cutting off the plantation water, niccas will continue to be trapped on the app, bills won’t be getting paid, Danny Myers will be battling Dogman Fred at the swap meet, crimes will be committed because the money has dried up, time will be served, JC will be poplockin for crack, and this shyt is really over.

If you have been a fan of the URL this past decade, this definitely isn’t the first time this has happened. However, the difference here is Smack is stating it publically.

If you watch the way the URL moves, you can tell when they have financial support, and when the money is dry. The whole “bars over names”/Post SM3 era stands out. They went cheap that whole year. They relied heavily on the pg class that year that consisted of battlers like Danny Myers, Ty Law, SNO, KG, Wavy, Prez, etc.

Now that class didn’t produce any stars, but there were a lot of dope small room battles like KG/SNO, Anubis/HA Double, and Ty Law punching nyggas the death. URL also had them nyggas on freestyle Friday. They were working those nyggas to death. Most of them fell off after their PG run.

Anytime the money was dry, they could rely on the PGs.

However, the difference in this era is that I don’t believe the crucible nyggas are strong enough to hold it down when the money is dry. I’m sure P can be an asset to the company in other ways, but he ain’t it as a talent evaluator. They need to completely reevaluate what they’re doing.

Of course they need to produce content for their YouTube page. The fact that they don’t is just crazy to me. Freestyles, Cyphers, short interviews, you know the shyt you use to do. Keep the channel active.
