That would require battle rappers to actually be good rappers. Most of the new wave of battle rappers aren‘t rappers that battle...hence why you don’t see any of them doing cyphers or making even remotely good music.

The modern battle rap fan (anyone that got into it post-2016) isn’t necessarily a fan of rapping which is why we’ve got people gassing the same formulaic battlers. As long as there’s the obvious set ups and punchlines then people are happy. I feel like this current trend started around the WeGoHard era.
