People saying this Netflix shyt is actually good :ohhh:

If so that's crazy, One Piece is the LAST manga I would expect to translate to live-action. It just seems too fantastical and it seems like a lot of stuff would just look silly in live action. Haven't watched it yet but I have a three day weekend so I'll probably marathon it.
I think the trick is for producers and writers to understand the things they’re adapting had an audience before and without them and to respect the source material, some shyt is not meant to be grounded in reality. Another thing is I like that they’re taking this goofy world seriously without having to point out how goofy and weird things are.

Right, that's what fukked up Cowboy Bebop - while the visuals tried to pay respect to the original (and fell flat), the script felt like it was ashamed of the source material and was constantly winking at the audience.

Wasn't a huge fan of how they adapted the overall Buggy stuff (the way it originally went was pretty instrumental in Nami warming up to Luffy and the crew and the way they did it here, it doesn't hit as hard) compared to the original but it's still decent enough

I just started it but Oda made the writers rewrite a bunch of it because he didn’t like it. He was in LA watching the la release and the fans reaction to it

The cowboy bebop adaptation was so infuriating. It made me highly skeptical that they would be able to pull off one piece.

Saw eps one. Don't remember Kung fu Nami but I guess they had to for American audiences :yeshrug:

That was off to me too and I found watching the first three episodes that they missed out on some of the core aspects of the character or the heart of many of the stories. Nami being clever and finessing her way into her money is big aspect of her character and demonstrates which she brings to the crew as she isn’t a traditional fighter

Miss the part where she faked being stranded to steal a ship or flirting with the soldier to steal his uniform?

Nami was always strong enough to take down fodder she's just not messing with actual fighters until much later.

No I didn’t miss that part but a huge part of nami was avoiding fighting, she takes down some fodder in group fights sure but she doesn’t fight like that even later in the series she isn’t that much of a fighter, she was getting washed by that one dinosaur chick that was head butting the hell out of everyone despite her showing her devotion to Luffy’s dream.
