Does anyone know why non-Black people look at you/feel a certain way when you say that you're not "African" and that our people built this country and we can't be deported?

:ohhh:

It seems like people don't want accept the fact that we're as American, if not MORE American as they come.

Question. I remember that Yvette was saying that HR40 was trash.
  1. Did she give concrete reasons why?
  2. Has she or Tone come up with a replacement for it?

They want us to claim Africa and abdicate our claim in America.

The main issue with HR 40 was that it only called for studies and suggestions but no guarantees of policy actions. People fear that it will go like the South African truth commissions, a lot of talk but no tangibles for black folks.

I believe Prof Darity is working on revisions of HR 40.

That will happen when Aframs keep getting lumped in immigrants, POC, and minorities.

The fact that Aframs have been (always) described and depicted at the best of times as 2nd class citizens in the same category as immigrants doesn't help either.

It’s a shame Marianne is so kooky. It’s a missed opportunity to go into the Democratic primary without a candidate to endorse.

Yvette and Tone should be trying to get in contact with Steyer. He isn’t afraid to talk about black issues, but we need a specific plan from him.

This sounds very much like "what's his black agenda?". If I misunderstood, please let me know. But if I'm right, then I'll say this. Aframs don't need a plan from him. You need to give a plan to him. That's how this politics thing works. The passive "what is this good white man gonna do for us" form of voting has to stop. You have to present your politicians with a plan and have them tell you how their agenda, platform, proposed policies addresses YOUR agenda.

Steyer might be Marianne 2.0 at least on stage. I have no idea how genuine or truthful he is about it. But Aframs now have a 2nd chance to support someone with a clear, explicit black agenda. And the opportunity to further help craft a real black agenda. Hopefully between now and the general, Aframs take full advantage of it.

Another thing. For those Aframs who go to church, are you strongly suggesting to your church to teach Civics. Because that's something that black folk are needing. The political process has become too much of an unknown. Black people as a whole have been making novice mistakes and basically relearning everything that was already learned and battle-tested from the 60s and 70s. It's holding us back. Right now, it's less like we're moving forward and more like we're finally not walking backwards.

I like how Steyer talking, but until he allocates a minimum amount and puts reparations on his campaign site, all of this talk is just talk :hubie:

I agree w/ another post who said Tone/Yvette need to talk to him :hubie:

That what it appears to me as.

I don't see anything about reparations on his website.

He wants to start a commission the first day -- but will it be approved once we have the findings?

On Yahoo News’ “Hot Mic with Brittany Shepherd,” Democratic presidential candidate Tom Steyer spoke about race and reparations, saying that if he were elected to office, “I would start a commission on race on day one.”

Tom Steyer for President

US Senate hopeful from Georgia, and ADOS supporter, Tamara Johnson-Shealey is hosting a few political events to help out with her campaign these next few weeks if you’re in ATL or the ATL area.

I know she’s having a campaign dinner at Paschals next Sunday that I plan to attend.
