I feel y'all on Nightcrawler. Honestly...I'm just not sure what happened with that. I feel like the Academy just looked at it as this basic thriller...didn't "get it". Maybe it wasn't the Academy...maybe it was the studio not pushing it hard enough.

It definitely should have been marketed to be more like a modern Taxi Driver....instead of the Drive like promotion it seemed to have gotten.

I kinda felt like Gone Girl was average though. I actually am pretty big on Rosamund Pike, been following her performances for awhile now, but aside from her....wasn't Finchers best effort imo.
The academy is hypocritical. Gone Girl was a female driven movie, very well done. Should at least be up for best picture and sound affects. Nightcrawler brought something new to the table, showed a guy doing something doe the better of society. An antihero with a purpose.

More importantly, they were original concepts. That should have been enough to get noms.

Y'all giving Common props :mjlol: dude tried to be inclusive, once again rappers ain't shyt

Exactly. Same ol' "hey, did you know blacks are oppressed?" fake liberal shyt. Its easy to get props here I guess. How about calling out the prison owners, dropping stats and narratives, etc. to show we are pissed off about the conditions of the prisons? Actually take some chances and stop being a soft

Exactly. Coli brehs still don't understand racial dynamics...this is a SAFE song, its not powerful at all. Its safe, and that's why the cacs like it. They mentioned the prison capitalist system, but did not mention solutions or call out the privateers...

We know the prisons are racialized; we know that, so why not add some depth to your speech? Address solutions and stop being SAFE!
Of course, but in only so much time, you can say so much. And sadly, I feel many of these entertainers can more about joining the elite then putting in work to change the course of society.

I wasn't paying attention to Common & John Legend's performance. Someone post pics of Chris Pine crying.

It was a token Oscar but I don't care. It was a positive song and more Rappers need to have more conscious lyrics. Salute Common and John Legend. It's something the mainstream doesn't want more people to here. Conscious hip hop has been phased out, it's sad.

You serious? Did you listen to the lyrics? That's exactly what they want the mainstream to here:mjlol:"We are peaceful, there are problems, but we will be peaceful and ask for our rights, and be peaceful":stopitslime:
