2020 was a shortened season due to Covid-19.

Player A:
60 games
214 AB
.341/.462/.640 (1.102 OPS)
13 HR
53 RBI
51 Runs
WAR 3.3

Player B:
47 games
154 AB
.351/.490/.695 (1.185 OPS)
13 HR
37 RBI
39 Runs
WAR 2.4

Player A is Freddie Freeman. He won league MVP.
Player B is Juan Soto. He finished 5th in the voting.

Freeman was a deserving MVP, but there's a damn good case that Soto was just as good (or better), albeit on a far worse team.
I don't need anyone here to chime in with comments about MVPs always being on good teams. That's a tired, unoriginal take. Great players are great players no matter where they are.

Going by the WAR more game and better defense for Freddie

WAR is a counting stat so it's inherently going to favor guys who play more.

Defense is a bit trickier. Though Fangraphs has their WAR values closer at 2.5 to 3.0.
When you're talking about a difference of 13 games played, I'm not sure this all matters.

The point I'm making is that I think the gap between Soto and Freeman in 2020 was negligible and Soto should have gotten a lot more consideration.

I’m a huge Nats fan, but the bolded is why Freeman won. If you’re putting up great numbers, but your team is ass, you WAR better be SIGNIFICANTLY above what the other MVP candidate’s WAR is to even have a shot at winning MVP. That’s why Mike Trout has won so many MVP’s, because his WAR is damn near legendary for the fact that it’s him and nothing but scrubs. The Angels would probably be worse than the ‘03 Tigers or ‘62 Mets if they didn’t have Mike Trout. The 2020 Nats still had Trea Turner, Ryan Zimmerman, Howie Kendrick and Max Scherzer. That Nats team was just underachieving the year after their WS victory. Soto’s WAR wasn’t good enough for him to seriously have a shot at winning MVP in 2020.

He has a couple walks, but the little bit I've seen is impressive. Everything is consistently around the plate and low. Damn near every pitch seemed like it was right at the knees.
