That month of is not a benefit
Maybe not. Lots of factors to consider though.

Boise and ASU had big talent disadvantages against their opponents. Time off really wasn't a gamebreaker for them.

Ohio State-Oregon is a bit more interesting, but if UGA loses tomorrow then we could really give that theory some serious consideration.

I always wondered if it would be worth it. 3 weeks off isn't like getting a bye week in the NFL playoffs. Really changes momentum and being ready to play.

1st round teams get a week off as is, and if they get a G5 or easy P5 to warm up on, it's sort of like playing a tune up week 0 game before playing a team who is getting their year started in week 1. Obviously not exactly the same since you've had a season under your belt and know what's what, but in terms of being "game ready" you've had some recent real time reps against a decent team but not so hard that it was a battle of a game and wore your team out.

The deepest pockets just got deeper is all :manny:

The level playing field applies for more teams to go 9-3, but that's about it.
The gap between mid-tier and lower tier teams has closed a bit.

More 8-4/7-5 teams (Vandy and GT are examples) that normally would've been 3 win type teams are able to emerge now. Maybe some of those teams might knock off a top team here and there but that's always happened in college football.

But in games that count, in the playoffs, the deepest and most talented teams will always win, usually in blowout fashion.

It ain’t a benefit at all. It takes you out of your rhythm. Same thing happens in the NFL when teams get that first round bye, you're rested but your momentum and rhythm are completely thrown off
It's worse than NFL.

NFL only a week off. This is like 3 weeks off.

plus the teams that play 1st round get some time off too, so it's not like the NFL where those wild card teams get no time off to rest.

Plus those are professionals (not semi-pros like in college) and can adjust and generally are more disciplined to be able to stay in real game form than some college kids who are probably getting invited to tons of parties and have a bunch of NIL money to blow.
