That’s because the NFL isn’t working off a model where what you did last year (or even longer than that) determines whether your team will bring eyes to the product and have a group of folks who don’t even watch every single game sitting around making matchups based on the prior mentioned tv product and who they would like to see play each other. The system they use to pick these teams aren’t solidified and based on concrete benchmarks but are a la carte and change week by week. If this happened in the pros there would be riots in the streets. Plus, folks complained when the NFL expanded their playoffs by 2. It would be louder if half the league made the playoffs
NFL playoff still 14 teams. and tbh I don't watch the NFL to the same degree I watch CFB. I know you can lose 7-8 games and still potentially make a legit run, so I don't follow it the same.
