And Evan Petzold is saying Detroit is interested in Ha-Seong Kim. Another .700 OPS guy with minimal power.

I hate them. :to:

I like the idea of Arenado on the Yankees because I think the Yankees can absorb that money and Arenado's batting average would be valuable. They don't need his power.

But Detroit doesn't have the same financial situation and they actually DO need more power. This isn't a great idea for them.

This clown Scott Harris is obsessed with defense and "versatile" players.

Arenado would give the Yankees their 2025 version of Scott Brosius

the Yankees had $63 mil or in dead weight last season, They gotta get off this idea of acquiring guys near the end of big time contracts hoping to squeeze one more year, Arenado's falling off a cliff fast.

The bidding war for Juan Soto in free agency is ramping up.
The Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, and Toronto Blue Jays are believed to have made offers north of $600 million to Soto, while the New York Yankees are in the $550-million range, a source told Randy Miller of NJ Advance Media.
The four-time All-Star would like a deal without deferrals, a source told Miller. In comparison, Shohei Ohtani deferred $680 million of his record-setting contract.

Soto, 26, is expected to exceed Ohtani's $46-million average annual value, a source told Jack Curry of YES Network.
There's reportedly a widespread belief among bidders that the Blue Jays will come in with the highest offer.
The 2024 AL MVP finalist will likely make a decision on where he wants to play in the next 10 days, sources told MLB Network's Jon Morosi. The winter meetings - the site of many big free-agent splashes over the years - start next Monday.
Soto recorded a career-high 41 homers with 109 RBIs and a .989 OPS over 157 games last season. He also slashed .327/.469/.633 with four long balls and nine RBIs in the playoffs, helping the Yankees reach the World Series for the first time in 15 years.

If Juan Soto is getting offers of 600M, and it's going to exceed Shohei Ohtani's 46M per year average, that puts the contract at 12-14 years.

Assuming the Yankees are offering Soto a higher per year average than Ohtani, that means something like 10 years, 550M.
That's not gonna get it done. I don't see any way Soto accepts a contract where he's a free agent at 36 years old...when he'd likely be worthless.

Brian Cashman and Hal Steinbrenner are not serious people.

I'm cool with Soto ending up in either Boston or Toronto. We wouldn't have to worry about him, and he'd go to Yankee divisional rivals. :yeshrug:
