Expiring contracts don't usually have value like that as the other team is worried about the player jumping ship and them losing them for nothing. It's a reason why a player's highest value is with multiple left on his deal.
A team isn't going to be too keen on giving up a major package for OJ along with a new contract along with it especially considering that a lot of teams initially valued him because of how cheap his contract was compared to his production.
When i say a package im talking about multiple picks....probably 1 lottery pick and 2 later picks.
The return for expiring contracts is not as strong as you think and Masai's stinginess will never yield a return equal to his and your perceived expectations. FVV was a former All-Star and yielded nothing. Lowry wasn't traded at the deadline because apparently nothing was to Masai's liking. GTJ wasn't traded.
We have to stop thinking Masai will actually trade one of these guys for something substantial when evidence has shown in the last few years that Masai is more likely the one to be fleeced (see: Thad Young for #20, Poeltl for a fukking lottery pick).
