Also like I said before there needs to be album categories for rap.

Best Rap Album
Best Traditional Hip Hop Album
OK. you're the committee.

How would you have nominated each category? The issue with your breakdown is that it's tough to tell the difference, whereas with rock/alternative and the R&B categories, you can differentiate the two.

I'm deadass serious.

I don't know what's with nikkas swerving on the Queen like she still ain't dropping hits and great music.

Jasmine Sullivan's album is good and that category def was a 2 horse race, so I'm not mad she won over H.E.R. Just going off of the replayability and the songs I played more over the year, H.E.R. album got higher highs and consistency. The only knock would be it's length.

Jasmine has the woman empowerment and free sexuality theme throughout her album that I'm sure conceptually they ate up.
That HER album isn’t consistent at all. It also didn’t have any impact whatsoever

HER peaked with vol 1 & vol 2

Summer should’ve won over both of them but she probably missed the deadline

I thought she peaked and wasn't sure which direction her sound would venture off into after those EPs, but... She answered the call with this album. Still has her core sound and now that's she's older she's comfortable making more edgy records.

Summer Walker latest was the worst from the bunch. Now that's someone who's music may have peaked already, I don't see that with H.E.R.

Also, her featured song on Jasmine's album is one of the highlights on there.

In terms of impact, what songs on Jasmine's album were bigger than Damage or Come Through?
:usure:

Those were great mainstream R&B records and the only songs that came out in that genre that were bigger weren't even Jasmine's.

The Grammys sort of had an aura around it, but reading some of the winners and categories it has become participation trophy status.

The Emmys and Oscars are starting to creep into that territory

You can differentiate between an R&B Album and a PROGRESSIVE R&B album? Because last time I checked I didn’t see what was so “Progressive” about the type of R&B Frank Ocean, Lizzo, and Beyonce make (all three have won in this category) what PRECISELY would you say is so “progressive” about the albums of Childish Gambino (Awaken My Love) SZA (CTRL) and Chris Brown (X) all of these albums were NOMINATED in that field.

For Hip Hop any album that leans more towards traditional Boom Bap and/or a focus on lyrically heavy content would qualify for Best Traditional Hip Hop Album and the “progressive” music of artists like Lil Baby, Roddy Rich, Pop Smoke, Kanye West would qualify for for Best Rap Album.

Progressive was just the Grammy's way of not calling the genre "urban contemporary" because artists felt a way about having that designation. They outlined the difference between what an R&B album is and what qualifies under "progressive R&B" even though they blur it at times.

I think R&B has always had more rigid definitions for what it is compared to rap since R&B was the same regardless of your location. Your definition of "best traditional rap album" would reduce the field to backpackers and NY sounding artists-- because other regions back then weren't doing that. Also, you risk artists not wanting to be nominated for Best Rap Album because then it'll look like the award is for artists who suck lyrically but are popular anyway. You think the Kendrick Lamar's of the game are gonna wanna be nominated for that?

I think DJ Akademiks has made it a point to say that the sing songy artists who happen to be popular deserve their own lane because we're seeing more of them and that aspect of rap have more of a stronghold.

Is Tyler the Creator's album dope?

My daughter knows I seldom listen to rap albums and she's been telling me since it came out to check this album and that I'd like it. Why? shyt must be good or he must be spittin or sumn...I knew he was gonna win. Might give that jawn a spin, he always annoyed me because he's madd gimmicky, that "Hey, I'm the weirdo guy, follow me if you're weird too!" shyt is corny if you're over 20.
