Crazy how Tatis Jr is such a huge star you forget that Machado plays on SD too. I forgot until I saw his 3ks scroll across the bottom of the screen :mjlol:

Yo somebody explain the Lindor hype for me. This cat sposed to be the future?
@Tommy Fits told me he's a superstar because he has the third highest WAR among position players since he entered the league. But his WAR is so high because he plays a premium defensive position where most guys don't hit for power like he has in the past so it's thrown out of whack and overvalued.

Lindor is a really good player, not a great one but he's being paid like an all-timer. At some point, I'd like people to use common sense instead of just pointing to WAR to argue a player's worth.

Me and @Remote never agree on anything but we're in lockstep when it comes to Lindor. His hitting profile has never been special, just better than most shortstops, which is typically a weak hitting position. That's what throws his WAR out of whack though and gives him more "value" than he deserves.

The positional weighting with WAR is stupid. Even if it's an advantage to have a power hitting shortstop or catcher, if you're paying them major money like Lindor, that's money you can't spend on a traditional power hitting first baseman (who will be a much more dominant hitter than Lindor ever will be), left fielder, etc. There's only so much money to go around and you shouldn't pay extra just because of position.

I'll even take it a step further. I'm firmly in the defense is overrated camp when it comes to baseball, which should be roundly accepted with the way analytics has turned baseball into a three true sum outcome: home run, strikeout and walk. When half the game is both teams walking back and forth between home plate and the dugout, defense matters less than ever. I'm not saying you can have seven Kyle Schwarbers in the field but as long as guys are competent enough to make the routine plays, that's enough in my opinion. There just aren't enough plays that matter and it's far easier to find a journeyman with a glove than to find a dominant hitter. :yeshrug:
