When the Yankees had to deal with this 3 years ago nobody worried about us.

If Manfred wants to change it, cool, but then go back to 3 division winners and 1 wild card like before. Otherwise we're gonna enter a world where 78 win teams make the playoffs. If we used last year's format, the Indians would be in the playoffs right now.
It was wrong then and its wrong now.

But the MLB is a business. It's bad business in 2021 to have only the top 5 teams make the playoffs. What happened last year created a lot of new fans for baseball. Yes Americans don't like regular seasons and especially 162 game ones when the stands are half empty by August in some cities. 14 or 16 teams (7/8 per league) should be the standard unless you really want to concede defeat to the NBA and fight hockey and MLS for the place. The NFL makes changes all the time, they are number 1. That tells you right off the bat this isn't working anymore. And the National League DH too. The players union needs to wake up.

Did it really? The season was what it was, but we also (with all due respect to the Dodgers) thought the regular season last year was fugazi.

and the NFL of all sports will show you that you can have 17 games in the regular season and you can tune out of that early as well if your team ain't shyt (case in point: NY)

MLB is not the same as these other leagues. You can make the postseason in the NBA and feel horrible about where your team's headed. When more teams can get into the postseason that not, the incentive to give a shyt during the year lessens.

It was fugazi, I admit, but if they had not played at all that was going to be a setback the MLB would not have recovered from. NY Football, fair enough, but as we know with the Mets, management matters. Both teams have owners that could not care any less because they will be top 10 in attendance at the end.

The main problem is no one cares now about baseball regular season. Why pretend it matters, we know the ratings tell us otherwise? Let's get some playoff streaks going for Cleveland, Cincinnati, Toronto, Montreal (sorry Tampa) Seattle, etc and stop living in 1950.

MLB's biggest draw in the West Coast winning 104 games and not even playing a series will bring changes. Unless Manfred's pride and ego is so strong that he won't admit something is wrong

Giants didnt even get a wildcard in 93. They won 103 games , :mjlol: Dodgers fans gonna have to hold that L that short season tourney them nikkas won last year got the fans feeling entitled

Disagreed, if you don't want to play in the 1 game wild card game - win your division.
And this line of reasoning is exactly why there needs to be a change.

Let's punish the top WC for not winning the division, but let's reward the 2nd WC team for not winning the Wild Card.:gucci:

1) The Yankees didn't finish with the 2nd best record in baseball
2) They finished a distant second from Boston
3) The Dodgers are 14 games ahead of the Cardinals

they didn't win their division though. That's the whole point of this. Otherwise we can go back to 4 teams and St. Louis woulda won 17 games in a row for nothing. Fine by me.

The only wack part of this set up is that the winner of the WC shouldn't have to play the best team in the league if they win that game. the team who has the worst record should have to do that. In this case, Atlanta should have to play the winner of the NL West.

I understand why people are hating on one-game wild card, but on other hand it really bumps the value of winning the division.
If it wasnt the discrepancy between 1st place in NL west and 1st wild card, Giants and Dodgers wouldnt have anything to play for, over last like month or so.

They still playing hard to get the division W. Giants starting Posey for four games straight now because they want that division and avoid randomness in one game play-in.
