Michigan State was in the inaugural CFP, how did they get so ass in 5 years?

Michigan, for all the talk of not beating OSU, returned to form of basically winning 10 games a year. Michigan State was then no longer able to get kids that otherwise would’ve gone to Michigan. Their recruiting fell all the way off.
