A college team playing 16 games just seems to be inviting disaster right?

At that point, it just becomes a war of attrition and really doesn't help any of the less talented schools.

Schools like Bama, OSU, Clemson, etc. will have the depth to weather the storm but a Boise State or a Memphis is getting wrecked with a couple injuries.

having access to the playoffs will allow them to recruit better. right now it's a closed shop for them and the recruits know it. also if they are the less talented then they'll lose in the first round of games and play the same 14 games that they were going to anyway. only the most talented teams will play 3 additional post season games vs the current 2.

But at least smaller schools have an opportunity to compete for a championship.

Not for nothing, a changing of the playoff format would impact the recruiting of those Group of 5 schools. More schools have a chance to win a championship, so instead of that 4* player that would choose to go to a powerhouse to sit on the bench for a year or two, they go to a Group5 school and start, with the understanding that if they have enough success, they'll be allowed to compete on a playoff stage.

I really like it at 4 (6 if expansion is needed), it sounds elitist but I think the fact that it's 4 makes it all the more important :yeshrug:.

They have access, All they have to do is schedule a tough OOC game and run the table.

That houston team that beat OU would have for sure been in had they run the table.

easy to say that because it didn't happen. if it did the excuse then would be oklahoma wasn't the same team in september that they are at the end of the season ... UH's conference schedule didn't test them the same way so we don't have an accurate picture of the kind of team they are today in december. you could come up with any excuse to keep them out.

They have access in theory, sure.

Even under a proposed 16 team playoff, they'd still have to meet your criteria to make it.

Bare in mind that OOC scheduling for smaller programs is a catch 22 for the Power 5ers, so the deals being struck in scheduling aren't always even handed.

There’s no way in hell that team would have been left out with a W over #3 Big 12 Champion Oklahoma and #3 Louisville
