Simmons is a lot longer and more athletic.

What about a discount Hedo Turkoglu?
Outside or being international I don't really see it. Hedo was a great shooter first then developed his play making way later in his career. I didn't particularly like the Drazen comparisons from way back either.

But again, if D'angelo Russell's slow ass can get by in the league then I see no reason why Doncic can't when they have similar roles on the court.

Luka is a better athlete than Turk with better conditioning :mjlol: and already has 10 lbs on him as a teenager.

If he shoots it as well as Hedo, he will be every bit of deserving if a top 3 pick.

naw not even close lol. more than anything its wildly inefficient for the peak athletes in any sport

on top of that, pace in basketball is dependent on the team, coach, playstyle, etc

if shaun livingston can get by with his knees imploded and andre miller can have a decades long career, then its more than possible doncic to thrive lol

That's my whole point. Livingston and Andre Miller were never star level players. With dudes skillset he'll definitely have a long career. I'm just talking about his limitations that would keep him from becoming a superstar type of player like a lot are projecting him to be. I just don't see that in him. No doubt he'll turn into a solid pro though.

My issues with Doncic are exactly what worried me about Russell and what is limiting his impact. His lack of athleticism has meant he rarely is creating easy looks for himself which leaves him as being inconsistent as hell from game to game. Russell's playmaking has suffered as well since defenses can sufficiently cover him with just one person which leaves less openings for his playmaking. A bigger D'Angelo Russell is his best NBA comp to me with better court vision.

I will say he could carve out a Manu type career as a secondary ball handler. I just personally would worry about him being a primary ball handler where the issues I've mentioned can be attacked more. However if you have a primary ballhandler that can create openings and get it to Doncic to take advantage of a scrambling defense he could be reach all-star level.

It's always fun to me seeing a lot of the white NBA media loving to hype up international players. Hearing people talk about Doncic being a can't miss star and how crazy teams will be to pass him up as been blowing my mind. Don't get me wrong dude is definitely skilled as fukk and I've loved the passing he's displayed but his lack of an explosive first step and lack of quickness really worries me with him. I've seen Harden comps but the thing is Harden is a killer one on one and has great handles which forces defenses to bend to try and cut off his drives. Without being a threat one on one it's much harder to open up the passing game which will minimize Doncic's effectiveness IMO. He can obviously hit the weight room and add some explosiveness and turn into a beast but I totally disagree with the analysis that he's ready to step in and be a star from day one.
Thing about harden though, that 1 on 1 game was all developed when he was in the league. I remember watching him beat the wear twins in the California State HS championships. He was an “all around” player. He’d post up, get rebounds, cut. He wasn’t this dominant 1 on 1 player. Even early in his career in OKC, he was a PnR ball handler. The step back 3, elite ball handling, and elite passing vision weren’t developed until a few years into his career.

Doncic is a better PROSPECT than harden was. We just have no way of knowing if he’ll continue to develop at the rate harden did. That’s what makes the draft a crapshoot

Russell is SLOPPY when it comes to in-game awareness though. Most of his errors are unforced

JJJ shot 40 % on almost triple the volume and in more diverse ways (off the dribble, trailing in transition, off the catch) :usure:
True but this is the pace and space era. Bigs are require to shoot these days and wasn't in the early 2000s. I played college ball at the time, it was constantly, man get your big ass in the post. Guards wasnt even shooting em like that. It was about the drive and kick game back then
