@malbaker86 this cat visiting this weekend, looks to be leaning all UF, hearing anything down there on him that says otherwise?

If I'm a Wr I'm not heading to Uf with that qb situation

This is a really good read. Very fair to all involved.
It is a great piece to show the Helfrich shouldn't have been fired after one down year supporters. A coach should get down year leeway...but the stuff in there was going to lead to multiple down years. Lost the ability to motivate and coach players. That wasn't going to get fixed very easy. As one who loved our assistant coaches, appears that they were becoming long in the tooth and stopped riding the players to make up for the discipline Helfrich lacked.

What surprises me is how everyone else in the Oregon media market is referencing that article. No other reporter seems to have known this was going on and if they did, none of them chose to report it.

The other thing becoming very apparent is the past staff's struggles on the recruiting trail. Willie is digging up a lot of players that wanted to go to Oregon and the current staff ignored or players that had Oregon as a top contender and they weren't making the final push necessary. Still amazes me how Oregon refused to offer Tua...makes it even worse when I found out today that he has a brother at DE going to USC and at one point had Oregon as a contender. How do you not jump on board and get Mariota's biggest fan and #1 dual threat QB and try to secure is 4* DE brother? :mindblown: Not to mention that Tua has a younger brother that is a highly thought of QB for the '19 class. First week on the job Willie went and tried to sway Tua back (sounds like he is solid to Bama) and offered his younger brother. :wow:

100% with all of that. Ducks fan and am hoping Willie brings UO back to respectability at minimum. Tua would've been a great fit in Eugene. I think if Justin Herbert can continue to develop on what he has, they are set at QB until he decides to hang it up and move on.

They need to go after, like you said, those top guys hard. To refuse to offer players like Tua no matter what their situation at any position is ridiculous. Quack-quack

Damn Cristobal is one of the best recruiters in the country:francis:

Not sure about his playcalling tho especially compared to what oregons been doing the past 10 years
We haven't really heard anything about what type of offense Willie is going to run, other than he wants to keep uptempo and spread elements.
My guess is that Willie may get away from the pretty much strictly zone blocking run in the past and may try to get the O-Line to be a little more traditional.

What Oregon fans needs to get used to is the days of position coaches staying for 20 years is over. They hired a ton of well thought of young coaches with big futures. Cristobal isn't the youngest, but he has made it clear he has aspirations beyond being a position coach forever.
They need to ride him for all he can give the program, because I assume eventually he leaves for a HC job somewhere.
The reason he says he told Saban he left was that Oregon offered him an opportunity to grow and for him to be more hands on in developing players. At Oregon he will have an O-Line where 4 Freshman started last year and a lot of backups are Fr. and So. Oregon's O-Line players aren't like Bama's talent, so they all stick around through Sr. year. He will have a chance to develop and coach an offensive line for 3 years with little moving parts.

As co-offensive coordinator, they are giving him the job that Gary Campbell (RB coach used to have - maybe expanded it more). He will be the run game coordinater, while Reaves will be the passing game coordinator (and coach TE's). Willie will call the plays, but it will be up to Cristobal to come up with how the O-Line will pass block and he will probably have a big say in how the RB's are used.

Cristobal's salary of $700k ($525 at Bama) is the highest Oregon has ever given a position coach and they have only paid two full time coordinators more money (Frost, Leavitt).

Yea I like Cristobal a lot, he will be a HC soon. I wouldn't mind if he replaced Saban when he retired. He would be a great fit I think he's made to be a HC, he's got that it factor thats why he's such a good recruiter. Love the way he coaches too

The media loves Herbert. He looked very good as a Freshman, with a team struggling around him. Actually a lot of the media believes he will be Oregon's second best QB ever after Mariota.
What will be interesting to see is how Willie's hiring affects Terry Wilson. Word was Wilson looked very good in spring ball and practice. Despite most thinking Herbert was further ahead, they thought Wilson wasn't far behind. Herbert isn't a statue and can move a bit, but isn't the athlete Wilson is. Wilson doesn't have quite the arm Herbert does. With Helfrich as coach Herbert was going to clearly be the starter next year. Wonder if with a philosophy change from Willie, if the battle between Wilson and Herbert for starter next year may be a lot closer when practices hit, than is getting publicized right now.

The crazy thing about Tua is he went to Mariota's HS, considered Mariota his football idol, had reached out to the U of O and said once you offer me I will commit, and they still chose to ignore him. It will be interesting to watch as they both progress, but Helfrich's staff apparently preferred Ryan Kelley (going to ASU). :patrice:
Must have been serious ether when the best players in the country came to Nike for the SPARQ championships and scrimmaging and Tua was regarded as the best QB there (moreso than the previously thought of best QB - Tate Martell).

There's still probably a pretty good chance Tua might transfer to Oregon if he doesn't win the starting job over Jalen
