It takes a QB with extraordinary athletic ability to make Malzahn's offense look the way it did with Cam and Nick. We just might have to wait a year or 2 to get that look back. I don't think it's time to fire Malzahn right now. If he doesn't start recruiting dual-threat QBs every year from now on though, I think it's clear he doesn't see what everybody else sees about his offense. It doesn't win without a great athlete at QB. I don't care if we lose some big games down the line getting that QB ready, but if he isn't in the backfield then Malzahn is still trying to make something work that he doesn't know how.
I think the offense can work without a dual threat QB, but it's gotta be wide open. We've fared well in the first half when we're trying to push the ball downfield, running hurry up, and taking chances.

But then as soon as we get a big damn lead, we try to slow down and milk the clock. And honestly I get it. Tuberville won a shytload of games doing that. We have a defense that is Tubs caliber.

The problem is this offense is dogshyt without the hurry up aspect AND no QB running threat. If we're gonna milk the clock, just put Willis back there so we have three options to run the ball. They know exactly what's coming when we have Stidham in the game and we're up by a score or two. Hand off up the middle, half assed screen pass, hand off up the middle, punt.

At least with Willis he might keep the damn ball and get 2-3 first downs for you in the second half. That equates to 6-7 more minutes where the other team doesn't have the ball.

Yeah a real read option is

Gus doesnt run real read options, or at least hasnt since 2013. Its been designated dive or keeps consistently

Being fair to him, none of us want to see Stidham laid out broke on the ground off of some read option he probably shouldn't be running in these next few games. He's not outrunning those defensive lines. Even Texas A&M has a decent D-line. We have a #2 that can do it and do it real well.

Only thing about last week is, I can't get excited about beating down a team that's already been beat down numerous times this year. That Arkansas team is probably the worst team in the league at this point. Bret is probably going to get fired. When it got tough against LSU, the coaches let us down and the players didn't make plays. Stidham has to show he's going to tough it out for the team, so the fellas will say "All right, let's get it"...He's not what they hyped up to be athletically coming in, and he isn't going to outrun defenders like LSU had, or Georgia, or Bama. He can pull it down and get a quick 3-5 yards every now and then.

But I think the real answer for quarterback runs, will have to be Willis. He's just quicker taking off and faster in the open field. I don't think we'll see that in the situations we need to with how Gus and Chip are handling QBs right now. They might surprise me though.
The fact that we dont have a pkg for a dual-threat QB in the red zone by now is fukking mind numbing. We've had 3 years of a pocket passer being the dominant passer, and the only time we ever adjusted to being unable to run the rock is the Memphis game where we lose without Jeremy being a tank in the 20s. That's literally it. We've had 2 years of having 4.3 40 guys as backups, and 2015 had Jason Smith, Jeremy, and someone else I'm sure.

That's definitely part of it. He got away from the hurry-up but that might be because of the youth on offense, and not knowing exactly where to be and what to do fast enough. They might be to the point where they can run hurry-up now. We'll see this next month.

And I know Bama fans are about to come in talking shyt because we're talking AU football.:stopitslime:We're whooping that ass in Jordan-Hare

I'm gonna flip my shyt if we lose to god damn Georgia again.

I swear I kept it together after the election last year. I was like "man it's gonna be okay we'll get through this shyt."

Then that damn Georgia game came along 4 days later and the existentialism kicked in and I was all
