It's resources and what sport most people prefer to play. In my high school our best track athletes didn't even run track. Some of them would wait until their senior year when football season is over and they had nothing else to do but graduate and then decide to come out for outdoor. The track coaches would always be :mindblown: at why these nikkas waited until then to actually try. The nikkas that did take track more seriously then them were much smaller and were mostly football rejects. They played jv but saw there was no future in it for them so then they take track more seriously their sophmore year.

Look at Devon Allen from Oregon, he also plays football. He's the U.S.'s best 100m hurdler and placed 5th in Rio. Imagine if he said fukk track and focused on football, we'd never know he existed. But also imagine if he said fukk football and put more effort into track, it's possible he'd be much better. All those hits and nagging injuries carried over from a 4-5 month football season likely effects his training for track. But here's the other thing, if you look at him and his stature, I'm almost certain you can find better "athletes" than him on Oregon's team alone yet those guys likely never gave track and field a shot because their focus and commitment was 100% to football. Naybe they may have dabbled in it when they were younger to stay in shape and workout in the offseason, but it's def not anything they took seriously.

Good points......

the best athletes go where the cash and glory are
in the us track is for the cats who wash out of football/basketball

for ja track and field takes center stage and gets the best of their athletes
it's easy enough to understand what is being said

jamaica has a population of 2.75mill
america has a population over 300 million

Agtain having top flight OLYMPIC 100m final speed is RARE

only 116 men EVER have run under 10 seconds 100m, cats just acting like if you train hard for it its God given :mjlol:.

Its God Given TALENT, that only a few have. Just like hitting 50 home runs a year.

It doesn't matter how hard you train or if you train every day. Hell carl lewis ran under 10 seconds only 15 times.

Yea, the guys in the top 10, if you're not there...and if you're not there for a few years, or you're Ranked 10-20 , you're not making much more than that.

As i said, it's "a lot easier" to be a scrub in the nfl and get 400-600k for 2-3 years than to be a top 10 track athlete and hope to earn 400k a year

What's being lost in this conversation is that Jamaica has a population roughly the same size as the city of Chicago. Them being able to produce Bolt, Powell and Blake goes against conventinal wisdom. We are talking 3 of the 5 fastest men in history.

Since people always wanna act like facts don't exist in these types of threads.
top track athletes make much more than that
There are also opportunities in other world sporting competitions that have prize money, though that involves being in the top ten in a given sport. For example, Jack Wickens, USA Track and Field Foundation Board directory, evaluated the income of track and field athletes and found the following:

  • Income depends on event; sprints and marathons competitions pay the most.
  • About 20% of top 10 American T&F athletes make over $50K annually.
  • Less than $15K annually is what about 50% of T&F (Track and Field) athletes who rank in the top 10 in the U.S. This is from all sources: sponsorships, grants, prize money, etc.). Anyone below top 10 ranking in the USA likely has little to no income or funding from their sporting activity.
  • The top 10 runners in the world in this sport can earn $100K annually, while the top 2 can do far better.
  • Runners in the 11-25th positions range from $10K to $60K annually, either doing moderately well in a given year or poorly.
  • All other runners below these rankings tend to have other jobs.
  • Top triathletes can make $50-100K annually. Some make over $1M annually (e.g., Chrissie Wellington and Chris McCormack.) The rest might top out at $20K.
breh...those numbers aren't enticing anyone, especially in a sport as competitive as T&F and especially when you have other leagues where you have a "better" shot of making it to that pay better

Not enticing at all.....could play basketball overseas and make more than that annually.

its crazy when you think of it, and the funding is not even on the us level type funding.

they just have it, like the kenyans and ethopians keep popping out these rudishas, dibaba etc.

I said sprinters, i wasn't talking about track athletes as a whole

a top ten sprinter is banking, you have endorsements and appearance fees

example
Yohan Blake 'insulted' by $40,000 offer from British promoter to race at Birmingham Grand Prix
Sprinters are in the same bucket, if you're not top 10 - as Blake was/is - you're not pulling in the type of money you would in one of the leagues. Secondly, if you don't become a celebrity like usain or johnson, that money is gonna get real short real quick as soon as you're knocked out the top 5

except attributes to be olympic level sprinters mean nothing
andre degrasse is 5'9 155bs
tyson gay is 5'10 165

so what attributes are you talking about?

YOu either HAVE IT, or you don't have it. Going by what your saying every 7 foot athlete should be dominating in the nba.

Jeff demps again was one of the fastest college athletes ever, concentrated on track and still has never run 100m under 10 seconds
it doesn't matter if your 6'2 190, and have all the attributes you either have it or you don't.

Jeff demps ran one of the fastest 40 yard dash ever but couldnt even run sub 10 for 100 meters and he made the Olympics

Trqck is a whole different ball game, even trindon hollidwy didnt run sub 10

Ain't no fukking player in the NFL faster than Gatlin much less Demps. Reggie Bush was suppose to be the male Ally Felix out of San Deigo but choose USC.

nikka Gatlin ran a 4.42 in the 40 at the Tennessee Pro Day. :mjlol:

shyt y'all asses down nikkas :mjlol:

Do y'all think Gatlin and Demps would be running track if they was good at football. :mjlol:

Demps dreamed to be an NFL player as a youngin. nikkas in the USA doesn't dream about the Olympics.
