I posted a year ago that we would be added to the big 12 this summer. Even if we get added the info I had was wrong. After I posted, Texas made their power move by purchasing land in Houston in order to start a new ut Houston campus. It was/is a shady business deal (illegal according to many) that is being used as a negotiation tactic for Houston's admittance into the big 12. They want UH to lay down and let them build their campus minutes away from ours. The fact that none of these national writers knew what was coming yesterday should make it clear that they don't know anything about what the big 12 wants. The fact that none of these national writers are including the influence of this ut Houston controversy should make it clear we aren't going to get an honest realignment discussion from them.
I'm listening to 1 of the Austin Sports Radio stations (104.9 the Horn) right now. Chip Brown is saying this is 1 of the reasons that the Big 12 decided to expand. Saying they don't want to allow another major conference into the state of Texas.
Idk if that thought process will prevail but some people on the internet make it seem like everyone at ut hates Houston but the truth is that there's a split amongst themselves (see Red McCombs recent comments). This decision will have long lasting consequences for current big 12 schools. Texas was the main school that tanked the swc and recently Kansas St's president at the time confirmed it publicly. Texas drove off aggy, Nebraska, mizzou, Colorado and put the big 12 in the position they're in today. The final nail in the coffin for big 12 schools not named Texas/Oklahoma would be letting another p5 conference into southeast Texas.
That said they've proven repeatedly that they're a myopic and insecure group of presidents and athletic directors. Until now I've never heard of a conference that had members openly admit that they're scared to compete with a certain school on a level playing field (btw big 12 fans have denied this forever). I'm not surprised though. As far as I know Houston is the only school in the country that had to endure a 5 year waiting period to join a conference (swc) so all of the other schools could have enough time to recruit more black athletes to compete with the new school.
Tidbits like that is why I encourage black fans to take the time to REALLY learn your school's history because your alumni "friends" have no problem keeping you ignorant about their racist history.
