Champ is handling this press conference. Man the guy has charisma. He knows that his offense was shyt at Florida and makes no excuses about it.

He also said that he will structure practices so that they will put the offense in a position to succeed throughout the week so they can build confidence.

The defenses were so great at UF that our offense never got off the confidence

Could be. I hate doing predictions, but just doing a position by position, there's a lot to look forward to. Keep in mind, this team was 7 points away from 8 wins. 2 of those wins were kicking team blunders early in the season.

Offense - 2015: OC demoted after one game and basically no real game plan or offense for the rest of the season
2016: New OC from the Art Briles coaching tree that has put up numbers at his previous two stops. a$$hole Oline coach that was turning recruits away left and OL recruits immediately start flocking.
Verdict: HUGE UPGRADE. If the offense isn't better, UT is just snakebit. Without even looking at talent, there is an actual system in place, which there wasn't last year. One of those facts that I think most of the
country didn't even realize

QB - 2015: Junior that sucked his entire career outside of 1 1/2 games started one game. Followed by RS Freshman that outside of 1 game was a non-factor throwing the ball
2016: True Freshman beats both out in spring ball(Corch won't say, but it was pretty easy to see). Could be a good year if he is even average compared to the shyt show of the last few years.
Verdict: HUGE UPGRADE If Buchele stays healthy and doesn't lose his mind this will be a huge upgrade. Even if he doesn't emerge, you will at least have game experience.

RB - 2015: Position was basically unknown with senior coming off achilles and young, afterthought twin starter. Afterthough twin turns into bull and true freshman comes in his relief and shows similar if not better skills.
Change of pace back also found. Ground game was highlight of the offense
2016: Both emergent RBs have great spring and bulk up to 250. Looks like one of the known strengths.
Verdict: HUGE UPGRADE. more experience and quality depth.

WR - 2015: Older group of under achievers underachieve. True Freshman emerges as one the best deep threats in the nation
2016: Another strength if a QB can get them the ball. Two world-class sprinters with hands and 6'6" true freshman that was perhaps the best player on the roster in the spring. Foreman also looked the best he has ever looked
Verdict: HUGE UPGRADE. Collins, Burt, Duvernay and Foreman are a group I would pick over any in the conference based on potential. 4 playmakers

OL - 2015: Typical UT line of the last 5 seasons: true freshmen and underachieving older players. Definitely a liability at the beginning. Didn't help that the best lineman at that time was injured half the season.
2016: That inexperience from last year turned into two freshmen all-americans. Senior is back healthy along with juco transfer that never emerged. Could be a decent to good line. UT was a damn good running team
even with all of that turmoil. Should be a good season, but starting another True Freshman at center that went through spring and won the job.
Verdict: UPGRADE from experience alone. First season in a long time with some actual talented depth. If a true freshman plays this year it will be pure talent and there is a lot of talent. Great OL class coming in.

Defense - 2015: UT played a lot of freshmen. A lot. It showed early on. Lots of missed assignments in the back 7. The DL was decimated. Came into the season with 2 all-conference level players that
ended up hurt most of the year. So basically there was a 3 man rotation in the interior line that was undersized and inexperienced. Could not be any worse. Statistically almost the worst defense ever
at UT
2016: Depth on the DL after signing 5 interior DL and two true ancor defensive ends. back 7 are experienced now, so depth has emerged there as well.
Verdict: UPGRADE because of the depth. This could prove to be the story of the Big XII season if they are even decent, it would change the conference.

DL - 2015: Went into the season as a strength, ended season as perhaps the worst in UT history(yes, the worst in history). Injuries to the best players led to a total of 3 interior linemen by the season's end. Was wayyyyyyy
undersized.
2016: If nothing else, the returning DL had a year to get stronger and have a little experience. Help is on campus already. The best 3 interior DL will be true freshmen. You also had Omenihu emerge as a solid DE.
Verdict: UPGRADE because of depth. This could prove to be the biggest leap for the team outside of QB. Just hard to predict, but there are some potential beasts coming in as true freshmen

LB - 2015: Was relying on true freshmen and inexperienced underclassmen. The true freshmen emerged as the starter at the end of the season in an average year. A lot of playing out of position. Some huge flashes though
2016: Actual established starters. One a preseason all-american. Actual knowledge of assignments and experience. Some depth and some real talent coming in. Could be a true strength.
Verdict: UPGRADE. talent, depth, a little experience. Imagine if these guys actually have DL that can clean up some blocks for them.

DB - 2015: Mix of underachieving older players that actually had a little game savvy and more talented true freshmen. Wasn't as bad as scores indicate because of the horrid DL. Two future career starters emerged at corner
2016: Coming in with 4 established starters that are actually being pushed at their positions. Super talent coming in to push as well that. By season's end this could be a great group. Maybe the best group on the team.
Verdict: UPGRADE. The corner position could end up great after unknowns last year. If some of the younger safeties emerge this group will be great. Perhaps 1a to RB being 1b for best position on the team.

ST - 2015: Established returner that couldn't shake the injuries, true frosh punter from Australia that never played football, and horrid underachieving place kicker.
2016: Will need new returners. The talent is there to be better. Punter actually ended up pretty good by the end of last season. New kicker needed. Walk-on vs possible grad transfer. Can't be anyworse than last year though
Verdict: BIG MYSTERY - I think the kick returners will be fine. There is plenty of explosive talent. Punting should be fine. As much as kicker is a mystery, last year was miserable and cost UT 3 games. Somehow I feel
confident this will be an UPGRADE by the end of the season

barring injury, this team should begin to emerge. Just so damn young at every position. Still relying on too many true freshmen. Every position should be better though, and this team was close outside of DL, which made the rest of the defense look worse than it was. Malik should be able to roam more this year, which he was devastating at last season, but because of depth and experience often ended up playing Mike. The offense has a chance to be damn good. Two 250 lb backs that both proved can take long runs to the house. I still think 8 wins. Even with a bad year and Charlie fired, 2017 will be the return to the top 10-15. Will Charlie be Tony Dungy or Chuckie? Mark Jackson or Steve Kerr.
