If I had to pick between braindead committee or just having 2 teams play for it all putting more meaning on all the games I'll take the 2 teams.

It would've been a straight death to CFB is a team like Michigan got in after ending season 1-2 way way worse than Oklahoma in 03. I dislike seeing games like the SEC title game get made into glorified scrimmage because Bama could lost by 35 and still been a playoff that's not good for the game the committee gotta figure this shyt out this shyt been blowing up in they face past 2 seasons they took 2016 OSU as an at large but leave out a better team in 2015 to give us an Oklahoma that lost to 7 loss Texas

I hope this "resume" buzzword gets deaded in the future the "resume" gave us 2015 Sparty and 2016 OSU and a combined 0 points I was told how great wins over Michigan and Iowa were what the committee loved well they got what they wanted

I just still found it weird for everyone to say that the Big 10 was the best conference this year but yet they left it's conference champion out.

We beat fspoo that's why

U beat FSU by 3 at home and lost by 5 at Washington who also beat a top 5 Oregon St it's lone loss came to Oregon who was top 8 by a TD in Eugene. Miami lucked out playing VT with Vick at 30 percent at home so Miami heat no one else of note but they were clear cut move deserving of it than Washington? FSU beat Florida and Clemson by combined 84-14 margin both were top 8 teams at the time. That year would've been perfect year for 4 team Playoff all 3 had legit cases but we rarely get that every season

Committee completely devalued conference title games with that statement these cats made such a mockery out of this year it's comedy. Big was undisputed #1 conference but you leave the champ out how stupid does that and u leave them out for a team they beat head 2 head:russ:

I'd take the computers over these big wigs who make up shyt as they go. I don't mind a 4 team Playoff I just don't understand why they couldn't keep the computers involved these committee cats are clowns we can get 10 cats from this thread and come up with better explanation than the bullshyt they been throwing out past 3 years. TCU wins a game by 60 but let's drop them from #3 to #6 final day that shyt ain't cool

The good news for ESPN: Ratings for Saturday’s College Football Playoff semifinal games were up a bit from last year’s.

The bad news for ESPN: Those ratings are still kind of terrible.

ESPN announced Sunday that the Peach Bowl between Washington and Alabama earned an 10.9 overnight rating on ESPN (the number is slightly higher if you include the alternate broadcast on ESPN2), while the Fiesta Bowl between Ohio State and Clemson delivered a 10.0.
Last years semifinals, the first ever to be played on New Year’s Eve, drew ratings of 9.7 and 9.9, so ESPN can be pleased with the modest increase. On the other hand, the 2014 semifinals, which aired on New Year’s Day, got ratings of 15.3 and 15.5, according to Sports TV Ratings, so clearly the CFP is leaving a lot of viewers on the table.

It’s almost as if people are less likely to watch football on a night when millions of people are out celebrating away from a television… hmmm.

From the moment the NCAA and ESPN announced that the CFP semifinals would be held on New Year’s Eve, we knew ratings would suffer, that college football could not “change the paradigm of New Year’s Eve,” as CFP executive director Bill Hancock suggested at the time. Now, with two years of data, we can say for certain that holding big-time games on New Year’s Eve is a bad idea.

Going forward, the CFP semifinals won’t be held on New Year’s Eve if the holiday falls on a weekday but will still be played on Dec. 31 when that date falls on a weekend, as it did this year. As the schedule currently looks, the CFP won’t run into the New Year’s Eve problem again until 2021.

Next year’s CFP semifinals will be held on Jan. 1. You can bet that makes ESPN very, very happy.

UPDATE: Shortly after we published this, ESPN announced the total viewership numbers. The CFP double-header was up 14 percent from last year in total eyeballs, indicating a more impressive improvement than the overnight ratings suggested. These gains are likely attributable to the fact that this year’s games were held on a Saturday, not a Thursday. Regardless, the point about New Year’s Eve games being bad for ratings still stands.

Unimpressive CFP semifinal ratings confirm that football on New Year's Eve is a bad idea
