Bobby Portis Brings Kevin Garnett-Esque Intensity Into 2015 NBA Draft by Zack Cox

WALTHAM, Mass. — If you were to ask an NBA evaluator to describe Bobby Portis, the first three or four adjectives out of his mouth likely would be some synonyms of “toughness.” Tenacity. Physicality. Intensity. Relentlessness.

For the 6-foot-11 Arkansas product, who visited the Boston Celtics’ practice facility Wednesday for his first pre-draft workout, 100 mph is the only acceptable speed. “Some players play to play, but I play to win,” Portis said after wrapping up his session. “Playing to play means you want to get out there, play 30 minutes and say that you played 30 minutes. But if I’m out there five minutes, I’m going to give my all. That’s playing to win.”

Sound familiar, Celtics fans? Throughout the pre-draft process, Portis’ all-go, no-stop mindset has been compared to that of former Celtics star Kevin Garnett, who has hounded and intimidated opponents throughout his two decades in the NBA. “‘Anything is possible!’ ” the 20-year-old said with a smile, quoting the famous line Garnett bellowed after winning the 2008 NBA title. “I always look at that for motivation.” KG’s confetti-covered rallying cry was one of the iconic sports moments of the 2000s, so it’s no surprise a player who was 13 at the time uses it to pump himself up. But Portis also finds motivation in a darker place. “I don’t want to say it, but I feel like I have to,” he said. “I always just envision somebody hitting my mom. But that’s just something that I do for myself because I want to make myself mad so when I get on the court, I don’t have any friends. It’s all business when I step on the hardwood. “Simply because that’s something I had to go through as a kid. My mom, domestic violence. It was something I had to go through. I just always envision not wanting that to happen anymore.”

Ive been on the bandwagon for a min

They have ridiculous hard-ons for Smart. To them hes valued as a top 5 prospect in the NBA. I guess its tradition to overrate our Point Guards (and hes not even a point guard). Ill trade him with no problem

And the thing is I actually like Smart, but they acting like he's Gary Payton or something.

Saying they would only trade him for Nerlens if they got the 3rd pick too :skip:

Really really dumb :scust:

Smart is Tony Allen with a not completely broken jumpshot and is overall better offensively. I literally told my friends on draft night "anyone but Smart, anyone but Smart"..."And the Celtics select..Marcus Smart" :wow::mjlol:Ive come around on him a bit but hes far from an untouchable building block to me.

I liked him at OKST for a while but soured on him..particularly as a top pick. I think Danny was backed into the pick because the medical team ruled out Randle

The Boston Celtics are actively attempting to trade up in next week's draft in order to select Myles Turner, according to multiple league sources.

The Celtics own the 16th overall pick in the draft and Turner is expected to be picked several slots earlier.

One of the Celtics' most pressing needs this offseason is a rim protector. Turner blocked 4.2 shots per 36 minutes in his freshman season at Texas.

The Celtics have one of the deepest collections of future draft assets in the entire NBA, with as many as four potential first rounders in 2016, which gives them considerable flexibility in attempting to move up.

Smokescreen for WCS or legit interest? :lupe:

what reason would the sixers have to trade nerlens? Especially with these bad Embiid reports

Some false rumor some dude on Twitter was trying to spread

we're trying to make a shyt ton of trades..who knows who he wants :yeshrug:

all these rumors indicate multiple trades, perhaps 3 or 4 team deals so we'll have to wait and see. maybe danny thinks the price is too high for stein and sees turner as a viable alternative.

At this point I'm just gonna sit back and stop trying to figure out what Ainge has planned :francis:

They should be able to get to 11/12 if they just pack 16/28 together....I like there chances at making this deal.
