Gainesville police arrested a University of Florida football player Saturday in connection with an armed home invasion robbery. Investigators say J.C. Jackson turned himself in to authorities.
Investigators say it happened just before 4 p.m. at the Canopy Apartments at 4400 Southwest 20th Avenue. The victim answered his door for Jackson, a UF football player who he told investigators was an acquaintance and had been to his apartment partying on other occasions.
Investigators say Jackson entered the apartment with two other male suspects behind him. Once inside, police say Jackson quickly left and one of the two men pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the resident and two of his friends who were visiting.
According to detectives, the suspects made the victims get on the floor where they removed money from the victim’s pockets. The suspects also took the resident’s marijuana and Xbox. The two suspects were seen leaving in a red “Nissan-type" car.
Police say Jackson was positively identified and he later turned himself into the Alachua County Sheriff's Office. The investigation is continuing into the identity of the other two suspects.
The former four-star cornerback from Immokalee High School was a redshirt freshman at UF.
