What freshman from ur teams should we lookout for? For us Arden Keys has been getting some high praise, Kevin Tolliver is competing with Ed Paris for that 2nd Corner spot. Derrius Guice I think has star potential and should get some carries. And I'm hoping Donte Jackson does kick returns. Supposedly he runs a 4.2
Tennessee is gonna be dependant on true freshmen once again.
On defense, DTs
Kahlil McKenzie and
Shy Tuttle will be counted on to play immediately, possibly even start day 1. First day in pads was yesterday and they dominated a couple of redshirt senior OL in one on one drills (which considering how badly the OL performed last year may not be saying much....but still its nice to see they are at least dominating them in the same fashion opposing teams dominated them). MLB is an open competition with the departure of AJ Johnson. Freshmen LBs
Austin Smith and
Darrin Kirkland Jr. are battling for that spot. I got my money on Austin Smith. Relative to his star rating (only a 3 star recruit), he's been the talk of camp so far. Butch Jones praised his athleticism after the first day of practice and he looks like he'll be an immediate contributor.
On offense, we're actually more set. Unlikely there will be significant contributions from true freshmen. Its possible that one of the freshmen can end up starting on the offensive line. The guys with the best chance at tackles
Chance Hall and
Drew Richmond. Both have drawn praise so far.
The most impactful newcomers on Tennessee this year will most likely be the 2 highly rated JUCO transfers. RB
Alvin Kamara is already pegged as 1b to Jalen Hurd's 1a in the RB rotation. He's been the star of camp since spring practice. CB
Justin Martin (who is only a true sophomore) has also drawn alot of praise. He's probably the most athletic player on the team already. 6'3" with crazy longarms and 4.3 speed. The hope is that he'll be good enough to lock up one of the starting corner spots so we can move All-SEC corner Cam Sutton to the nickle. Given the amount of spread teams are running, nickle is becoming more and more the base defense around college football. And having a great nickle corner can make a huge difference.
