recruiting is the lifeblood of any program. right now Butch Jones has us in play with the best QB in the 2017 class and the best QB and PLAYER in the 2018 class. thats a big deal. it points to the fact we'll be contenders for many years to come.

remember how significant Jameis Winston was for FSU's recent run? we could potentially signing two Jameis Winston's back to back in 2017 and 2018.

:mjlol: @ celebrating over an HS freshman qb

he's already 6'5", has a cannon arm, comes from great pedrigee (his high school/town has produced alot of great professional athletes). he threw for over 3000 yards as a freshmen and led his team to the championship. some folks are even comparing him to Peyton Manning at this early age. he's got both the physical attributes and production at an early age to be considered can't miss. hence 24/7 naming him #1 for 2018 and saying he's a got chance to be the wire to wire #1.

the reason we're favorites to get him right now is because his family is originally from Tennessee and are huge Vols fans. plus he's visited our campus several times already. we've been recruiting him since the 8th grade.

:mjlol: TCU Goin Beat They Ass

TCU is one of the most vastly overrated teams heading into this season. I love how everyone ignores that they lost everyone on defense. i wouldn't be surprised if they had a 2014 oklahoma type season.

its only so much luck you can have in turning 2 star nobodies into college football stars.

Except for the fact he's been doing it for 10 years.

They only dipped because they jumped up a level & their starting QB got tossed for smoking crack

mountain west breh. also i meant this in the context of winning a natty/getting to the playoff. oregon has run thru the pac 12 with a bunch of 3 star prospects and a gimmick offense. look what happened they ran into auburn in 2011 and ohio state in 2015? look at what will happen in a few years when USC is back at full strength? look at how ohio state made michigan state look last year? look at how alabama made miss st look last year?

at the end of the day, the elite programs are those that recruit at an elite level. teams like tcu and michigan state will have some success in weak conferences. but once they play the big boys with the blue chip talent, they get exposed. the only dominant programs in college football are the sec schools, florida state, ohio state, and usc. michigan might come back and possibly oklahoma/texas. other than that, its mediocrity fighting more mediocrity.

From The Westside With Love

You hear about this? Adidas is the outfitter for the conference, despite 9 of 12 schools being Nike brand.

Pac-12 secures official partnership with adidas

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (July 29, 2015) – The Pac-12 Conference and adidas announced today a three-year partnership that makes adidas the Official Athletic Apparel and Athletic Footwear partner of the Conference and all Pac-12 Championship events.

In addition, the new agreement makes adidas the presenting sponsor of Pac-12 Sports Report, Pac-12 Networks’ weekly one-hour flagship studio show. Pac-12 Sports Report showcases each week’s big events with commentary, recaps, interviews and feature stories that elevate the profile of the Conference’s outstanding teams, student-athletes and coaches. adidas will also be integrated into some of Pac-12 Networks live event programming with on air talent and production staff wearing adidas apparel. Pac-12 staff and volunteers will also be outfitted in adidas apparel at Conference championship events.

“We are thrilled to reach a strategic partnership with such an iconic company that shares our passion for innovation,” said Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott. “As they do with athletes around the world, adidas will now help support Pac-12 student-athletes by improving their championship events and bolstering our coverage of their success on Pac-12 Networks.”

The Pac-12 hosts championship events in football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, wrestling, women’s gymnastics, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track and field, women’s rowing, and women’s beach volleyball.

"It is an exciting day for adidas as the Pac-12 is one of the elite conferences in all of collegiate athletics,” said Chris McGuire, Senior Director of Sports Marketing, adidas America. “This new partnership continues to highlight our commitment to U.S. college sports and our focus on aligning with championship-level schools, teams and student-athletes. The Pac-12’s rich athletic and academic tradition and consistent success on and off the field make them a perfect fit for the adidas family. We look forward to our brand appearing on field and court, in stadium, across the Pac-12’s digital properties and on-air during Pac-12 Network broadcasts starting this season.”

dude, shut up

if anything, the rise of the spread offense and tempo tactics means there is more parity in CFB than before, not less.

I guess vanderbilt having success and whooping tenn's ass before franklin left was due to them being in a weak conference.

Keep poppin off about recruiting statistics while mizzou keeps winning your division with #30 ranked recruiting classes.

I guess this where a misunderstanding of recruiting rankings comes into play. There really isn't much of a difference between teams in the 15-50 range. At that point, everyone is recruiting mostly the same 3 star guys and the difference becomes who can develop those mediocre players. Its the top 5-10 where the gap becomes huge. I compare it to the NBA draft. For example in the NBA, there isn't much of a difference between a guy picked at #14 and #50. everything after the lottery picks is pretty much the same. The superstars and difference makers in the nba draft comes in the top 5-10 picks. its rare to find superstars picked outside the top 10.

In that same vein, teams that recruit in the top 5-10 are recruiting a different breed. They get 5-10 guys a season that will become pros. Compare that to everyone else from 15-50 who might have 1-2 pros on their team. Its the reason the last 3 national champs (Alabama, Florida State, and Ohio State) have perenial top 5 classes. They get the best players. If you want to be ELITE. national title elite, then you need to be consistently recruiting in that top 5-10 range. because thats where the best players congregate.

The spread offense isn't gon be hot for long. These defensive Coordinators aren't just sittin around doing nothing.

You say that, but average game scores have only been increasing since the mid 2000's. Baylor and TCU played a 61-58 game in regulation last year :mindblown:

being a defensive coordinator in CFB is only going to get more difficult

I'll give you this year but the high tempo spread offense game is hot right now. I disagreeing how much impact it's made the last ten years. None of these teams have won championships and that's really what's important.

That high uptempo is basically cheesin can't even set up a defense anymore :mjcry:
These defensive coordinators aint bout to let teams keep putting up 40+ on them. They're going to find ways to scheme against this. These old heads DC are about to go to the bushes tho. That's why I'm not tripping Chavis left. His schemes are played out. Look at Auburn they stayed putting up points on us even the year year b4 last year when we whooped them in death valleY they still did they thing offensively.

ohio state??

lets be honest, when a team goes to the ship but fails to bring hardware home, typically we put it on them not having enough players. But when its a spread team...well then they blame the up-tempo, spread team.

I guarantee you this playoff format leads to more spread teams and big-play offenses making it to the final game.
