Auburn picked to win the conference but Alabama picked to win the west

the divisional winner is picked based on weighted scoring. so you get more points for being picked #2 than being picked #3. Auburn got more 1st place votes than Alabama, however, they were ranked lower on more ballots. thus, bama wins the west but auburn is picked to win the whole sec cause more people like them as the #1 team.

folks views on auburn as more volatile while bama is more consistent. no one is picking bama to finish worse than 2nd or 3rd in the west. many have auburn finshing 4th or worse.

butch jones can recuit. back to back top 5 classes. even if he can't coach a lick like marc richt, he'll still have us closer to contending for a national title than dantonio based purely on the caliber of players he recruits.

just two years in. 5 wins his 1st year. 7 wins last season. back to back top 5 recruiting classes (only other SEC team that can say that is Alabama). Media just picked us to finish 2nd in the east behind georgia.

i'd say thats a pretty good start for Butch Jones considering he inherited a program that was in the dumps.
