There are exceptions but the average family can afford to save for college...they have 18 years. I see toddlers rocking jordans and polo and that money could be put in a 529. It's a sacrifice but when you have children that you want to be college educated you make sacrifices.

Even if parents aren't saving promoting academics from the jump and searching for scholarships once the child hits middle school, helps as well.

This comment just prove you use lazy stereotype, then follow the stats of who can really play for college.

The average normal state college tuition is $4,000-$10,000 a semester. Most scholarships are not even that much.

Agreed, but also how many families are out there spending twice as much on a new car when a used one would suffice and they could of put half that money away on a college fund. So many Americans spend out of there means towards things that aren't half as important as school.

THE REASON YOU GUYS HAVE STUDENT LOANS IS BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF INFORMATION. NOT THE LACK OF OPPORTUNITY.

And be real, most kids are disgusted and feel embarrassed to be going to a community college. They feel like it's a "step down".
