The violation in Virginia is § 46.2-855. Driving with driver's view obstructed or control impaired. Hanging a CD, fuzzy dice, Mardi Gras beads, or air freshener off the rear-view mirror is considered obstructing your view. Most of the time, people get away with it because it's not a big deal. But, it gives probable cause where a cop can write a ticket for it and it can stick in court. It does obstruct you view partially. You can try to challenge it if you ever get that ticket, but why bother. Don't hang anything. That's my freebie for all y'all that don't like to get pulled over.

And no, we don't pull over minorities for no reason.
