this was too much of a bad boy lovefest. nobody can deny it.

and you can hear the gasps in the crowd when biggie beat nas for best lyricist. live performer could've went to somebody else as well.

the funny thing is, they were trying to do this on the west coast with aftermath in 2000. looking back, im kinda glad that the fights caused the show to be shut down. looking at the list of winners, its ridiculous. and aftermath was not on bad boy's level.......I still feel sorry for grandwizard Theodore tho.

Nah... it was true to what was goin' on at the time. '95 was Biggie's year... RTD was the must-have album from late-'94 and really picked up steam in early '95. Now the live performer award is up in the air, I don't feel he was the one for that award but the others are understandable. Then there's "Flava In Ya Ear" which pretty much rocked the entire second half of '94 with the original and then the remix. And of course the performance got crazy love cause every song they did (except "Flava...") was a hit at the time. It was just one of those things where the timing was there and Bad Boy was the label that summer. shyt, the year prior was a Death Row lovefest, with Dre and Snoop winning everything so it is what it is. :yeshrug:

If I recall correctly... Snoop, Dre, Cube, Eiht, Outkast, Scarface, Big Mike, Warren G, Bone Thugs, Da Brat, Rage, Coolio, etc. ALL got nominated for something. So I don't see where it was NY-centric. Those were artists from '94 who made notable music...

The belief that the Source was this pro-NY mag who discriminated against everything not from NY is a long-running myth, held up either by people who didn't read it back then or people from Cali who didn't feel they kissed their ass enough. Matter fact, The Source ran MEGA coverage on Death Row, gave good ratings/reviews to all the artists I mentioned, always ran articles and did cover stories on lots of 'em too. Most of the best music from that time whether it was East, West, South, Midwest or whereever got props in the mag, It wasn't all this super bias that everybody claims.

bullshyt, i'm from that era and i'm from tha West Coast, tha Source bias against tha west coast wuz very real

"i'm from tha place where tha source won't give u more than 3 mics" - Kam "where i come from"

tha Source had NO CHOICE by 1995 but to bow down to tha west coast, Death Row inadvertently made rap/hip into a multi million even billion dollar industry, at that point Source had no other choice but to recognize and respect that becuz thats wut tha PEOPLE wanted to see

i would read tha source in those days and almost every west coast album recieved a subpar rating of 3 mics or less, even for wut we consider classic albums on tha west coast, but any album that wuz considered classic on tha east coast definitely got its 5 mics, its no secret tha Source wuz heavily east coast biased publication becuz thats where it originated from

tha west coast is like tha MLK/Rosa Parks of this rap shyt, we stood up and kicked down doors, we made it possible for tha south to eat and get that recognition, and even canada anywhere but NY, we were tha ones who paved tha way, we had it tha hardest, but we made these nikkaz respect us by putting out quality music..................

kicking down they buildings, wrecking award shows, and making nikkaz drink piss also helped :youngsabo:

The Kam quote is funny, cause they didn't mind givin' his homie Cube over 3 mics (in fact he got a 5 and a 4.5 for his first two albums)... Pac got more than 3, Snoop got more than 3, Dre got more than 3, Too Short got more than 3, Eiht got more than 3, Cypress Hill got more than 3, and I could go on... KAM just didn't get more than 3. That wasn't the ceiling for Cali as a whole. shyt, I can honestly say there were some artists I wouldn't have checked for if I didn't read that they were dope in the Source. They bigged up E-40 for years and I still can't figure THAT shyt out.

The Source started off leaning more towards NY cause everyone there was from the East Coast and the mag was based there, but that wasn't the case by like '93 or so. There were writers from everywhere by then. And even prior to that, there was always props given to artists outside the East. Even before they had an awards show, they used to just give them out in the mag, and the '91 issue had Cube as artist of the year, NWA as album of the year, and Geto Boys with the single of the year. So... where's the NY bias?

They originally gave doggystyle 4 mics, when everybody knows that's a classic, if that duznt show their bias at tha time (1993) I don't know wut to tell you, they re-rated it years later as 5 mics to save face

Thee only west coast album in tha source history that received 5 mics originally wuz Amerikkkas Most Wanted, and that wuz most likely becuz tha east coast bomb squad production :snoop:

really? That's tha only west coast album to receive 5 mics (originally) from that piece of shyt magazine, and you surprised Cali didnt respect them? We don't need y'all funky ass magazine to tell us our shyt is dope, muthafukka we tha ones who made rap go multi platinum plus, every time we cuss! :pacspit:
