If you're not aware that all top level professional athletes take steroids then you've not been thinking critically about the situation.
Think about the risk vs reward calculation here. A roided high level athlete WILL win against a natural, high level athlete 8/9 times out of 10. The difference in hormone profile is almost as large as between man and woman. So look at it from that perspective. Here is a little $100 drug that can almost guarantee you an edge in your pursuit of the fame and fortune of being an athlete. Now think about the wild things people are willing to do in the normal workplace just to get $80,90,100k jobs, you're telling me these athletes won't take a measly injection in pursuit of a million dollar job? Remember these are the same athletes that berate the ref, dive on the field, do all kinds of foul shyt on the court just to gain any small edge in full view of cameras, but people somehow think that when they go home and the cameras are off they turn into innocent, rule abiding players
What's worse is that the associations are also complicit. Sports leagues are in the advertising business and the one thing that drives new audiences to a sport is extreme feats of athleticism. When guys like LeBron, Messi and Usain Bolt are out here making headlines for all the records they break, that's when casual viewers tune into NBA, La Liga and IAAF games. This means that the associations have a huge incentive to turn a blind eye to steroids behind the scenes so that their stars can keep breaking records. But at the same time they know that casual viewers don't like "cheaters" so they have to look like they are cracking down on shyt. In reality if you get busted for steroids it's because you were too dumb to hide them from detection in time(like Serena the time she locked herself in her house when testers came through), or you played the backroom politics poorly and offended too many people till they now could witch hunt you out of the game (like Lance Armstrong)
