pretty dope doco but they didn't go through all the songs :what: they talked about One Love and i think it kind of just ended, it's like Nas had to go on tour & they had no money left and didn't want to wait so they just shot some stuff to end it. they didn't really talk about It Ain't Hard To Tell or Represent, Halftime, Memory Lane.

It did feel like a documentary that was constraint by it being edited down. People who saw it at the Tribeca festival in April said it was a bit more longer than the version thats currently out.

I really hope when it drops on Blu Ray or whatever retail, there's a longer director's cut. As you said, there was more songs to go through and it would have been interesting to see them discuss Illmatic after it was released (the bootlegging, the fact it wasnt a chart success and how the acclaim was slow build and lasting impact). Many of the reviews have given it a pass for that saying it was first time directors and also the fact that the film focuses on a particular aspect of what inspired Illmatic (Nas growing up, the ill will passing, how effectivley they shot and curated all that) instead of a whole linear history probably makes it more effective.

It just shows how much a story and life Nas has that we excepted more to be told in the doc. Dude's had such a storytale of a life, that he has had TWO VH-1 documentaries on him and two very good ones that we expect more.

In some ways you can make a trilogy of Nas documentaries to show his life by putting this one at the start to show his early life, then the VH 1 2005 driven to show Jay-Z beef/mom's death and then 2012 Behind the Music one to show the Pac meeting, the divorce from Kelis and where hes at now. Its why I think its laughable people think Nas is just about this album and the beef with Jay, there's so much storytelling, controversy, great songs, battles, interesting inspirations to album titles it baffles me people think hes not an interesting character and why he still gets talked and discussed with passionate discussion good or bad even to this day.

for those havin playback issues

its .mp4

play it with quicktime or open it in itunes

anyway

seen the documentary

it was cool just seemed a tad rushed wish it went on longer and got more in depth with the songs

not that it did a bad job of that because it didnt especially when they spoke to pete rock and he played the sample for the world is yours that was cool

just feels like when you get into the meat of the story the doc is over lol

i was kinda surprised nas didnt walk to the spot where ill will died would have been cool to see him reflect but even when he spoke about will death he had that long pause so maybe was just too much for him

but still enjoyable

still gotta say the best doc ive seen thus far was the tribe called quest doc if anyone hasnt seen that def see it
