The Muppets: ABC Head Explains Need for Season 1 Retooling - IGN

"The expectations were very high because we ran, if I may say so ... we ran a great campaign for that," he said. "It's a solid comedy, but we didn't quite feel it had the joy, the laughter and the heart that we were looking for, and we thought that Kris Newman would be a great person to bring that in."

Though Lee hasn't seen the final six episodes of Season 1, he did speak highly of what Newman brought to the show. "She's done it. We've got some fantastic scripts going forward," he said. "We haven't seen her last six episodes, but we have some very high hopes for them and hope that they will be as good as the scripts."

Guess we'll find out how this works out next month

Sounds like an "UH OH" to me.

Well not necessarily. As long as they keep the funny, there's nothing wrong with adding more heart to the show. Heart doesn't mean you soften the jokes or make the show common denominator, it just means you add a touch of classic simpsons or modern family when its working at its best or blackish. Right now, the show is like seinfeld, which is fine, but not normally the muppets

Maybe, but they said "joy laughter and heart."

Still the Pepe and Rizzo show though.

I mean really nothing changed except the spirit of the show. Jokes were the same and still at the same clip. Just feels less cynical and has a different energy to it and from what I've been reading the past few days, I expected that

I finally watched this one. I appreciated the meta aspects and the fact they were acknowledging the show changing, but I have to admit that I'm missing some of the cynical humor. Soft-hearted Kermit isn't as good to me as dikkish Kermit. I also don't like how quickly the Piggy/Denise love triangle seems to be moving compared to the first batch of episodes and taking up so much of the episode time. There weren't many jokes that made me laugh with this one either.

I'm still with it though. There's nothing else on TV like it right now, so I'm willing to give it more time. Maybe they'll catch a groove in a few more episodes:ehh:
