Yeah, I could see that. I'm just of the opinion that everything doesn't have to be groundbreaking. Being great at being funny is good enough sometimes. When you find something that works well, at least ride it for a little while. I will say I'm interested to see what their idea of innovative is for characters that have been around half a century. Could be better or likely much worse.
Agree. I've seen reviewers that expect this show to have the depth and over-arching themes of "The Office". They go into it each week expecting to see a Jim/Pam/Roy love-triangle and basically are looking for a reenactment with puppets. They also hate that Kermit can be a dikk. Which is hilarious in itself because that first season of the office was brutal when it first aired, much more awkward and mean than in later seasons, and it was only after people started paying attention to the Jim/Pam/Roy storyline and appreciating the "mean" humor that the show gained any mainstream traction anyway. None of that is the case with the Muppets.
Also, expecting Chip the IT guy or Single Dad bear or Denise the temporary girlfriend to become fully fleshed out characters with understandable motivations and a deep background - after 6 episodes no less - is asking a bit much. I don't need to know what Chip's driving motivations in life are to laugh at his jokes.
The ratings are good enough - they just set the bar higher because it's the Muppets.
I hope they don't trash this show by making it just like every other sitcom that's aired in the past 5-10 years, but it sure looks like that's what's about to happen.
