One quantum computer in the future will have the combined processing power of all computers on earth today.

Indeed, the potential processing power of quantum computers truly boggles the mind. Because a quantum computer essentially operates as a massive parallel processing machine, it can work on millions of calculations simultaneously (whereas a traditional computer works on one calculation at a time, in sequence).

*sigh

Based on Moore's law, computing will reach it's zenith in twenty forty-nine. Problem is we don't have the raw materials to conduct such processing power. Quantum computing is nice but we will have to go MUCH farther before we have self replicating, civilization creating monoliths LOLS

fyi We live in supercomputer, but you didn't hear that from me.

quantum computers are not governed by moore's law. it will happen, only a matter of time.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we did live in a computer. :yeshrug:

Use logic. If classical computing was suppose to bring the singularity in 2049 and quantum computing is faster than we should know VERY soon whether this is all real or farce. Be prepared to be disappointed. Technocrats can't separate fantasy from reality.

they weren't in the book and I don't remember them ever mentioning the monoliths were self replicating. Kubrick really wanted to depict Aliens interacting with early hominids and teaching them things but couldn't find a way to depict them that would awe the audience so he decided to not depict them at all and just use the monoliths

Him and Clarke were puzzling about it for a long time. It was Carl Sagan who told them not to show the aliens at all, if I remember.

HAS ANYBODY ELSE READ THE NOVEL, BROTHERS? IN THAT VERSION, THE MONOLITHS WERE TRANSLUCENT CRYSTAL, DUDE! BUT THIS LOOKED REALLY BAD ON FILM, SO THEY JUST PAINTED THEM FLAT BLACK, MEAN GENE!

I actually like the Black better. It makes them seem more frightening and mysterious.

Yessir, carl sagan the gawd made that suggestion, even though kubrick really wanted to show the aliens. There was a reddit post showing some of their attempts at making the aliens. There was some concept art of these really tall and skinny aliens that I thought would've been creepy. I also agree that the monoliths look better painted all black. What a creepy movie.

Only criticism I have is its a little too long, but its kinda like watching mozart compose a great symphony. The movie is visually absolutely mind blowing
Mmmmmm honestly id rather watch Man of Steel for visual stimulation but i can see how the film influenced the art of making films but as a movie i think its overrated with a plot that isnt very overt.

It was requires patience, a bit of intellect, and an attention span to truly appreciate.
Having to watch a film 5 times to Get it, is a problem friend. It shows the director was probably on drugs, crazy or has a lot of yes men around him that cant help him make his ideas more cohesive in the editing room, friend. Kubrick was a demon though so any one of these options makes sense.

you're asking people to predict the future AND use logic in the same sentence. If you want to say, "based on what we know NOW..." i'm ok with that, but pretending like we, as a species, don't tend to come up with solutions to shyt we thought were impossible then you've not done enough reading into our history. I suspect humanity will simply not settle for physical limitations, we never have and because of that literally men fly, breath under water, grown human parts and a myriad of other "physically impossible" things on a daily basis.

We have overcome physical limitations but not universal limitations. Like I said, we should know real soon since quantum computing should bring the "singularity lol" before 2049. I expect all of you technocrats to be pretty disappointed.

SO basically if i'm understanding you correctly sometime withing the next 50 years man will cease to expand on technology because well, we simply will have it all figured out?

GTFOH.

Considering there's already research into bio computing and multiple state processing i suspect the hurdles your convinced will stifle mankind will be cleared.

I actually have an uncle who works R&D for Motorola and every time I talk to him about multiple state processing and other advancements into processing it's damn near scary where they think they can go with these things, PARTICULARLY with regards to the medium they use.
