If you guys don't have a daily meditation routine do it ASAP. Start 20 mins per day and gradually increase your time to an hour (perhaps longer if you have the time) .

I actually discovered a trick today that seems to effectively rid myself of any negative thought that I'm having. Basically, I give my right temple a stern thwack and then I tenderly rub my left temple and tell it to get to work on doing it's job and that I have faith that it won't fail me or whatever positive motivations that I can think of to encourage its activity.

I came up with this technique after reading a book on emotional intelligence and the science of how the brain works. So far it's been 2 for 2 or making me forget what I was thinking about and putting me in a better mood almost instantly afterwards today.

Emotional hijackings presumably involve two dynamics: triggering of the amygdala and a failure to activate the neocortical processes that usually keep emotional response in balance—or a recruitment of the neocortical zones to the emotional urgency.12 At these moments the rational mind is swamped by the emotional. One way the prefrontal cortex acts as an efficient manager of emotion—weighing reactions before acting—is by dampening the signals for activation sent out by the amygdala and other limbic centers—something like a parent who stops an impulsive child from grabbing and tells the child to ask properly (or wait) for what it wants instead.13

The key “off” switch for distressing emotion seems to be the left prefrontal lobe. Neuropsychologists studying moods in patients with injuries to parts of the frontal lobes have determined that one of the tasks of the left frontal lobe is to act as a neural thermostat, regulating unpleasant emotions. The right prefrontal lobes are a seat of negative feelings like fear and aggression, while the left lobes keep those raw emotions in check, probably by inhibiting the right lobe.14 In one group of stroke patients, for example, those whose lesions were in the left prefrontal cortex were prone to catastrophic worries and fears; those with lesions on the right were “unduly cheerful”; during neurological exams they joked around and were so laid back they clearly did not care how well they did.15 And then there was the case of the happy husband: a man whose right prefrontal lobe had been partially removed in surgery for a brain malformation. His wife told physicians that after the operation he underwent a dramatic personality change, becoming less easily upset and, she was happy to say, more affectionate.16

You probably have to be in at least an ok headspace already for this to work though. I imagine if you're prone to rumination that you would probably need to learn how to control the habit to really dwell on things before moving on to this technique because rumination is one of the most powerful and seductive vices of the brain

Does anyone know any good career options for people with mental illnesses/learning disabilities?

I'm in my late 20's and I'm not doing any trades/construction anymore (I tried that).

Janitor?

When I first started getting SSI it was too low at first so I took the "ticket to work" program and they had a training course to be a Janitor. The one test I took I got an 90 on it and I'm kind of an dumbass. I didn't finish the course only because SSI rules suck if you work and receive SSI at the same time.

Also, if you live in a major city like NYC, you could be a delivery man. Don't need a car or driver's license, only a bike or scooter to deliver to food from the restaurants to peoples apartments or offices.

Security guard, I doubt it's as dangerous as it sounds. I would imagine the vast majority of security guards are sitting around doing nothing watching netflix on their phone most of the time. At one place this nikka was watching wrestling on his phone while on the clock :mjlol:

There's women and short brehs that are security guards.

I would imagine they only security gig you need to be a big dude is at a nightclub or strip club. But any other place other than nightlife venues? Size don't matter. From personal observation the average security guard is :flabbynsick: , your height shouldn't be a issue at all with that job.
