Not often do I call a film weird and confusing but I will here.

I believe some people are hyping the film up off who the director/writer is. Yes, the cinematography and acting was great but the pacing was extremly slow. Had a random person written this script, no way would it be bought.

I have 2 questions

1. Did Master believe his teachings or did he know it was crap? Cause at his 2nd book signing he got frustrated when the lady pointed out the change in his views

2. Do you think Freddy was tryna influence the girl into the cult at the end with the blinking game?

i don't disagree about the hyping of the film, even as a big PTA fan.

1 - yes i think even he knew his teachings were bullshyt. his own son told Freddy that his father was full of shyt & making it all up as he went along. that's why there was such a big disparity in beliefs from book 1 to book 2...which the lady was questioning.

2 - yea i think that ending is left up to interpretation. was Freddy trying to see if he can start his own cult? was he just trying to be somebody's master? was he testing to see if it all really works the way it worked on him? was he picturing the master on the low? :scusthov:

1 - On some level I think Dodd did believe in his teachings. I think he did believe he could change Freddie for the better and help him. That's why I think the film is far more interesting than just a expose on scientology. You can tell Dodd legit cares for Freddie. He's not just some huckster trying to make a cheap buck. But then there's the more ridiculous showman aspect of Dodd which is clearly put on and manufactured. He's such a complex, fascinating character.

2. The last scene is an odd one too but I kinda get from it that it just shows that Dodd did make an impression on Freddie. He left some sort of mark on him. And while Freddie thinks he's free and has no master, the dude basically lives for p*ssy and is controlled by it to an extent. He even talks about how he can't stand the thought of someone looking at his woman. Everyone is a slave to something, even an apparent transient like Freddie.

So I guess I understood it more than I thought. They should've had some scene between Dodd and his son and his conflict with the teachings.

I've read a few places about Dodd being gay, I couldn't really see that
