...just finished watching this film. Beautifully shot and acting is top notch :whew: but.......what exactly is this film about? I might need multiple viewings to come up with a consistent narrative. Can anyone help me out? :manny:

If you know about the history of scientology then that will help you understand the film a little better

I thought the acting was top notch, however, story wise, was this just an origin story to Scientology?

i think i just watched the right trailer, looks like it could be a dope movie the story of scientology is pretty interesting no matter what you think of the actual "religion" itself.

It is what it is :beli:

It's boring. There's absolutely NO PLOT (I dare you to find one) to speak of. So the cinematography and acting is all it's got going for it. You can watch it a million times and you're not going to get anymore out of it.

Anyone who says anything otherwise is a liar or just really likes Googling bullshyt. "The meaning of the Master" is a good start. Then copy and paste what you find here. So then we will all think 'you got it'.

And yes, it's based on Scientology founder L Ron Hubbard. They took the promise of that premise and killed it. So much potential lost.

Flick had it's moments. The producers behind the film declined to admit it but its more or less about the early days of the Scientology movement seen from a perspective of some alcoholic weirdo who comes across them.

Basically the wife is the the one in charge of the cult. The dude is just a charismatic front who talks a lot of shyt and gets people to join. When put under pressure he cracks (dinner party where he calls that guy questioning him a pigfukk :russ:). The wife is the backbone and all the beliefs come from her. She is too calm and cold to be able to recruit though.

Joaquin's character is an immature guy who cant control his urges (sexual, violent, etc.) who gets taken in by the Master and basically treats him as his loyal guard dog. He tries to teach him the cult's beliefs but Joaquin had to find his own way in life and learn to control himself mentally. He finally makes a breakthrough when he visits his ex gf's mother and stays calm and accepts that she is gone and happy. He ends up in a relationship at the end and seems to have found happiness.

This is basically what I got from it...but didn't notice the wife angle...so she is basically the leader? :ohhh:

Also, the relationship between Lancaster and Freddie was similar to that of a dog being trained by his Master. Freddie was a stray and happen to land on Dodd's boat and the rest is history.
