Should I skip it and start with ME2?

gameplaywise, yes absolutely, but this is a story driven experience and you'll be missing out on alot if you do. THings that will even affect decisions in the next two games.

Nah, power through it. It's probably the worst playing game in the series, but the lore (if you're interested in that) is valuable for the next couple games.
