this is just an ongoing adventure like Kung Fu the legend continues. It's not really about advancing some overarching plot.
Star Trek: The Next Generation did the same shyt, sometimes they would just have episodes where they spent the whole time in the in holo room waxing poetic about shakespeare or some shyt. Mandolorian at least keeps the action going

I agree. And I’m not even a big Star Wars fan. I actually think it’s refreshing to have a popular show like this where things are more serialized and episodic. There are dozens of great options currently for shows that have long-term overarching plots where every episode extends the main narrative.

I miss stuff like the shows you named. X-Files too. They only had a few mythology episodes every season, and the rest was monster of the week. And even The Shield was really good about having large chunks of each season devoted to random dude stuff.

At least he ain't moving like the Bebop crew. They were starving for most of the show.

Part of it feels like he's paying penance for some of the wild shyt he did in the past too.

The way the Twylek chick talks about him going back in the day, in the Bill Burr episode shows how far down the path he went.

I don't think it's a coincidence that he and IG-88 - a remorseless killing machine - were after the same bounty in the first episode. Mando had to make the choice between killing Grogu because it was the mission and essentially becoming no better than a droid himself, or realizing the kid was in pretty much the same position as he was before the Mandalorian saved him.

This show is ridiculously close to 'Lone Wolf and Cub' - from the philosophy on down.
