mine is just beginning.

I have bought a total of one hip-hop vinyl -- BDP's "edutainment," which I got for two dollars in 1999. I have about 10 more hip-hop vinyls, mostly underground from when I was writing for a couple magazines.

I have about 20 7-inches -- punk/garage/pre-grunge stuff from seattle/pacific northwest ... and a couple handfuls of Vinyl LPs. Those are mostly hardcore/post-hardcore and Homestead records indie bands from the 80s.

Never really cared about records until recently. And I have kids, so any collection will be built very slowly. But they're fun to browse for.

Ill take photos later but I have a lot from all kinds of genres. I have a pretty decent collection of albums. A lot of classics like Doggystyle, Chronic, 36 Chambers, Illmatic, etc. Classic singles from when I used to DJ pre-Serato/Traktor. Then tons and tons of shyt records from the .50 bin at Amoeba, Grand Daddy Souf doubles Red Cafe singles etc lol,.

Vinyl connoisseurs, I have a question. How can I verify that this vinyl is colored without opening it?

I don't play any of my vinyl and try to always purchase them sealed. I only copped because of colored aspect as I already own the CD. The vinyl does not have any indication that denotes if it is colored or not. I have checked the year of issue, record label as well as the catalog and UPC numbers against online databases and online sellers and everything seems in order.

I know that it had a later press in 2012 and I for sure do not have one of those because of the previously mentioned information. However, I couldn't confirm that the OG press was only a colored pressing as I know that sometimes the same catalog and UPC numbers are used after the colored run is no longer pressed.

I tried to contact the label that released it and came up empty. Same thing with the artist, no response. Is there any other way to know for certain that I indeed have the colored version? If there is not, I'd prefer keep it sealed and be uncertain rather than open it and be wrong.

it really depends on the vinyl. the sticker on the plastic of my copy of mothership connection said it was a red vinyl. check the release number on discogs. next to format it will tell u if the vinyl is red. do you buy online or in stores?

I would say cross check it with Discogs. What albums are you looking to confirm are coloured?

Discogs

Use it to check barcode and labels and look for other indicators, besides that there is nothing you can do, especially when the colored vinyl is random with that particular release

Nothing comes close to Amoeba in terms of selection anywhere in the area, turntable lab used to be dope right off fairfax but it's gone now. Most of the places have pretty much shut down. I honestly go on Bestbuy.com and Discogs more than every stepping foot in spots anymore because they just don't have em.

I purchase online because I have no local shops.

That's one of the databases I used. Everything matches so logically, my vinyl is colored. My last resort if to find another person with the same record and compare and contrast.

Thanks for the help.
